From what I can tell from the article she's talking about a separate project trying to get her to do nudity so she doesn't "disappoint her fans from GOT", not that it's any better though
This new story is messing with the google results right now so I can’t find it, but back in the day there was a story about how at least one of the HBO execs handling GoT was pressuring them to do more nude/sex scenes. But yeah this article isn’t about that.
It's fine, we need to remember the long list of things he did to accept accountability/make amends: 1.
“I was told how one studio head said in a meeting, 'This script is fantastic. Let's get Julia Roberts to play Harriet Tubman.' When someone pointed out that Roberts couldn't be Harriet, the executive responded, 'It was so long ago. No one is going to know the difference.'" Julia Roberts Was Wanted as Harriet Tubman, Studio Exec Didn't Care That She Wasn't Black
this is one of those stories that I'm like.. it has to be fake but then I read it and it's real? how dumb is this exec??
Three of the authors “received specific funding from the Charles Koch Foundation to support all studies in this work (No Grant Number available)” lmao sounds legit You know everyone who worked on that study spends their free time accusing people of “virtue signaling” on Twitter. Get that Koch-funded trash out of here.
I should mention that Jen Bartel is a queer woman of color, who works in the mainstream comic book industry (which has a notoriously toxic fanbase), who isn't shy about matters of representation, etc. So, writing off the concept of moral grandstanding as purely a product of anti-"virtue signaling" when she finds it interesting isn't exactly the best look. Especially when I've lurked during some blowups here on this site & seen voices from marginalized communities make similar observations to the ones she highlights in her tweets. Thanks for pointing out the Koch money influence in the study itself, but, like... There's an actual good, important element to this topic that warrants further reflection from all of us.
Jen Bartel didn’t write the study. It’s a far right conservative-funded study. The source of funding is literally the first thing one should look at when evaluating the reliability of any study. It truly doesn’t matter who retweets it, if it’s a study paid for by Koch money I could not be any less interested in what it has to say.
Lol yeah what they’re saying isn’t really all that different from Harry Frankfurt’s famous “On Bullshit” essay. Are we going to pretend like liberal posturing isn’t totally a thing? Especially in a thread about accountability, I‘d think that would extend beyond actions and also acknowledge cynical motives, which are more than abundant in the entertainment industry
I do hope we can keep from ironically falling into moral grandstanding ourselves while talking about this topic, though. Like, I’m already thinking about if my limited engagement so far hasn’t been ideal. Morally posturing about not morally posturing is next level interneting, lol.
I don’t believe I’ve seen anyone on this site engage in “virtue signaling”/“moral grandstanding” so I don’t think that will be a problem lol
