This is gonna slot in with the MCR remaster from earlier this year as potentially the new version I turn to. The dual vocals, the additional instrumental touches, even the wideness of how the sound feels on really good speakers, it’s all just fucking masterful.
The only one I don’t love is different and I normally like Alex’s vocal. Was just expecting more. Permanent is always just whatever to me.
I gotta say of both features I’ve heard Cassadee on this month - Glory/Us and Silverstein’s Autopilot…I have not enjoyed either. I guess the idea of turning Glory/Us into a ballad is not a bad one…I just didn’t think it worked here.
In the Cold being one of my favorite if not my favorite song on Phantoms…I think this version takes away from what made the original version so powerful. Overall, I like Phantoms 20. No song is objectively bad. Some of the reimagined songs are really fun, but I will stick to the originals for most.
Seeing them tonight!! Been a fan for a long time, so stoked to finally see them live. Phantoms Twenty is solid imo, obviously it’ll never replace the original but I also don’t think it’s intended to. It’s a great companion to the original album and the guest spots are really fun.
This is absolutely incredible. Phantoms is one of my favourite records of all time. I still remember my young emo self in the 00s putting the record on for the first time and being blown away.
Oh wow she's on Silverstein too, how cool it is to have 3 features lined up for the same day hahh (she's on Cartel's final track too, as somebody had already mentioned)
Wish they'd come to the UK. They rarely tour for long but I'd imagine it is because most of them have jobs and family that prevent that from happening.
This re-recording is a great reminder how amazing these songs truly are. The band might even sound better than the original, and Jason is spot on. I enjoyed hearing what the guest vocalists did but IMHO there might be a smidge too much auto tune/vocal processing at times for some of these singers. It doesn’t ruin it for me and definitely will keep coming back to this version from time to time.
Loving this re-record but something about how Matty Mullins delivers “nothing is purrrrrrr-ma-nent” takes me out of it every time.
