I’ll check this out just because I adore this band, but yea, I don’t get why we needed a re-recording of this. can’t wait to hear everyone bitch about Matty Mullins (despite the fact I actually don’t think he’s that bad).
Take Cover by Martin Johnson or whatever is absolutely awful. It's the perfect album how it is, I'll preview the songs but don't know why this should happen at all. If anything gives us an acoustic version or something. No harm in it really and I guess it attracts attention from fans of these other bands.
For everyone asking “why,” the band probably doesn’t earn jackshit from the masters owned by Sony, and it’ll be another 15 years until they’re up for copyright termination, so it makes sense to have a version of Phantom they can own outright (presumably licensed to EVR for a limited distribution window).
I don’t hate it but I also don’t know why I’d ever listen to it over the original, which is how I feel about most projects like this.
The re-record probably also a way to claim some flowers on their legacy. Creative reasons aside, it’s a way to show that a lot of the people who have defined the last 20 years of the scene have latched onto this record that had its own ups and downs when it released.
At the end of the day if it gets more people to listen then that's awesome. Even seeing this thread pop is going to make me throw on the album today.
Don't hate the new "Take Cover" at all. Aaron Sprinkle is still a magician and I like Martin. So this is a fun little extra. Probably will wait to hear it all before pre-ordering, but I own all the other Acceptance albums so I'll probably grab it.
No interest in this but did a double take at Teddy Swims being on there. That is an enormous get for a band like this one
More excited about some features than others, but seems like a fun little project for the band overall and this first taste is pretty good.
Really like the flourishes that come on through on the new version. I do wish it was just Jason though and I think I'll feel the same about a lot of these new versions.
