I normally go into attack mode when people talk about Dad rock, but it’s nice to see someone use it and not intend it as a pejorative
Got my vinyl, 7-inch, and shirt yesterday. Got my shipping notification for it today. I can see why the last track was left off, it doesn't really seem to fit with the rest of the tracks. Listening to it the other day, I was thinking it could easily be a Fall Out Boy song (and would love to hear that version). "Explanations and Excuses" fits better, but it definitely feels a step below the rest of the album. That could be a personal thing for me though, because as catchy as it is, I am not a fan of gun/gunshot metaphors.
I also got my record today with the b-sides. Unfortunately they sent me the Orange crush instead of the riptide I ordered. I don’t care enough to make a big deal about it though. Glad to finally listen to this album and the b-sides. I was holding out until I got these!
I also got orange crush instead of riptide, I actually emailed them about it and they promptly sent out another record but we'll see if I get another orange crush . I'm not convinced riptide exists since the originally pictured orange crush also wasn't fully orange
There is no indication of the Riptide variant on Discogs. I’m a little disappointed, but I’ll shoot my shot like you did.
If anyone could hook me up with those B-sides I'd greatly appreciate it! EDIT: Actually just found them lol. I'm really into both actually!
I can understand why "Don't Look Back" was left off in the sense that it does have a different feel from most of the album, but it's actually one of my favorite tracks they've done in a long time. I love hearing them try something else outside their usual sound. "Explanations and Excuses" is super catchy too, loving the energy of it.
Benchmark actually came through and it does exist, so now I'm just gonna wait for someone else to add the Discogs variant because I'm too lazy to.
They emailed me today after I told them about the mixup. They followed up and asked me what color sticker was on my record (which was Orange). Did they send you a shipping notification when they sent you your new copy?
No shipping notification for both my preorder and the replacement, but it came very quickly. Sent out the 27th from Chicago and arrived today, I'm in the Bay Area for reference.
I only got the wrong orange one yesterday (I was waiting on the 7” b-sides). Chicago to Brooklyn hopefully shouldn’t take so long.
There’s a 2-hour episode of the Labeled podcast that came out yesterday that everyone here should listen to ASAP. Hosted by Matt Carter of Emery, featuring four of the guys from Acceptance, talking about literally their whole career (but mostly focusing on Phantoms and the Columbia Records experience).
pretty interesting interview. pretty funny that they re-recorded "Different" with Howard Benson for huge money, and ended up not using it at all. Id never heard that before. I'd like to hear that.
