This was better than I was expecting after "Diagram of a Simple Man" came out with the Knuckle Puck lyrics in it. I enjoyed it but wasn't blown away. Need to go back and listen to it more, but as of now I prefer Phantoms (and I'm not one of the people who puts that album on a pedestal as one of the best ever, either).
Top 3 after 3 listens. 1. We Can Escape 2. Colliding By Design 3. Fire and Rain I think the record flows nicely front to back.
@walk.into.the.light on Instagram is with the guys and posting videos and pics if anyone is interested.
I'm listening to this for the first time now - diagram is better than I remember and the title track is very weird, wow
I think there's a little bit of weirdness in how the title track starts. The first lines that Jason sings don't seem like typical first lines, and it almost feels like there's a part of the song that's missing from the beginning... it's almost kind of like how some novels start in the middle of the story and you just have to figure things out as you go. But it's awesome, and it's my favorite track right now.
I agree. There are some amazing songs on the album but others that are sort of "meh", but that's just me.
Going for a night drive with this album really helped me appreciate it. I liked it on first listen, now I'm in love.
I haven't stopped coming back to this. Loving it more and more with each listen. I agree with the Anberlin vibe comparisons. Which is a great thing in my book. Definitely its own thing though.
Yeah I really like this. Haunted, and 73 are early favorites. Haven't heard Phantoms, but I dig their EP. Permanent is huge.
I'm enjoying the album so far the production is top notch. Not quite Phantoms but it's a solid release. Fully agree with the later Anberlin comparisons. I wish they had included "Take You Away" on here (maybe an updated version to fit the overall sound?) because that song is a jam. Favourite three so far: 1) Fire and Rain 2) We Can Escape 3) Goodbye/Come Closer/Sunset
When I Was Cursed legit sounds like it could be a song on the next Anberlin album if they hadn't called it quits.
Speaking of Anberlin, I feel like this album is a spiritual follow-up to Vital, albeit with more pop elements and less rock elements. It's like a well-oiled machine you can't help but love in a blare-it-out-your-car-windows sort of way, but it's a hard album to get emotionally invested in. I don't see this as my AOTY, but I can definitely see it on my year end list somewhere.
Just listened to the whole thing for the first time. I really like it. "Colliding By Design", "Fire And Rain", and "When I Was Cursed" are definitely the standouts so far.
