This seasons been a dud in my opinion. A few memorable episodes but overall I just feel like somethings lacking. I'd like to see them bring in more recurring secondary characters to stir it up a bit.
Yeah, I've honestly been feeling the same way. This season has become more of a hangout show, which is fine if you're looking for that comfort zone, but it's also felt aimless compared to prior seasons with no overarching plot driving the season long narrative. The end of the most recent episode is the first time this season where I felt like there was something happening to propel the story forward.
I’m watching Abbott to hang out with my pals and have a few good laughs each episode and this season is providing that
Got a solid cry-laugh out of Mr. J saying "Either the rats have elected a new pope or the furnace is about to go." from the latest episode.
i'm also just less interested in having to have quick turnaround on plot development with a show like Abbott. this is a network comedy, and given their higher episode orders each season, they generally play the long game in that department. Quinta is well-versed in comedy, and i trust her and her team to deliver any major developments in ways that feel natural/aren't just a rehash of other network comedies, balancing them with good jokes and character dynamics. one-off episodes and a stronger focus on day-to-day shenanigans are fine with me.
I think maybe my expectations have just been setup by prior seasons to know what the story is for each season from the start.
