I do listen to the live album more than the record but I guess I’ve never actively thought it had any problems
I think Bury Me Anywhere Else & Goodbye Carolina Blues are probably the 2 best individual songs. Just wreck me.
The drums are the biggest issue for me. There's hardly any punch to them on studio versions. You can really hear it in "Running Toward the Light." The bridge gets me every single time.
I wonder why that is. I think the wonder years have some god awful mixing on their records too, so maybe it’s a Dan Campbell thing?
Ace has produced and mixed all of the Aaron West stuff, the rest of which I think sounds fine. He also produced (but not mixed) the TWY Burst and Decay EPs. Not to get too deep into another TWY mix debate, but Nick mentioned once that they wanted Ken Andrews to mix No Closer To Heaven and couldn't afford him. That's a crazy what if for me - he's one of the best out there (just listen to the last couple Jimmy Eat World albums for proof).
Hoping this next chapter yields another full band headliner. Their show in Boston in June of '22 is one of my all-time favorites. Just so much great energy. The Springsteen cover is incredible live.
Will be bittersweet if this new record truly wraps up the Aaron West trilogy as Dan has stated as the intention for this project. Aaron West shows were always a great time inbetween TWY runs.
I’m guessing this will be a full album play of the new stuff. I don’t really like hearing new stuff live for the first time. Also a Thursday. Lame
What could this show be outside of a record release show? The record is done according to Aaron at recent shows. Gonna have to make the trip for this show.
Presented like a musical with scenes between the songs? Special guests playing other characters from the Aaron West world?
Going to kind of work off this theory a bit. What if something happens at the show in the Aaron West world, and a single/album are released shortly thereafter recalling some event that happened at the show with a character in the Aaron West storyline?
Full discography play through? All three albums + EP? Maybe that's asking too much. Then album release on Friday. Boom, Aaron's story is over (with hopefully one last tour so I can see them).
New album April 12th! https://forum.chorus.fm/threads/aar...nties-in-lieu-of-flowers-april-12-2024.66398/
