Godspeed. I have been working on my 2nd book (poetry) for two years. I keep revising and I think I finally have arrived at the perfect collection as recently as 3 weeks ago. Revision is crucial, just don't go crazy with it. I feel like you already know all that tho. Anyway, give em hell, kid

Haha. Nice! I just had my three year anniversary with this one (fiction) last week or so. Ended up having to rewrite the entire thing after beta feedback. It's a much better book, now, but the process has been very long.

Oh, I know. And when it's ready, I'll gladly share. It's just also terrifying. Only four other people have seen any of it, really, thus far. And they haven't seen the whole thing. Insecurity, man.

I bought a couple of "let's write your novel" type books at Barnes and Noble the other day. I'm working through those with the intent of having my first outline for Nov. I feel like I keep procrastinating and I just want the process to be done. Idk. I feel like I haven't been holding on to any great ideas, either. I know it's going to suck because it's my first big writing thing in a long time and I've never been awesome at it, but I have a hard time doing things that I know I'm going to suck at. >.>

I need to get over myself and just write.

Best writing advice: ass in chair, hands on keyboard. One sentence more is all you need for it to be a good writer. Perfect writers aren't published. Finished writers are published. Turn off your inner editor and just write the first draft. Be as a critical as you damn well please after that, but don't listen to that voice until an entire work is there.

That's the brilliance of NaNo, and why I'm happy you're doing it, @lish. You gotta go at a speed the editor can't keep up with you at.

I'm a pretty firm believer that everyone is born creative and society and certain educational norms grinds it out of most of us. In that regard, I'm also a firm believer that anyone can recapture that and I'd love to encourage you to try either.

I sat down to write about Italy and music, and ended up with a novel about depression and friendship. Can't really say that I had any ideas, but I'm in love with where it's at.

(If you can't tell, this is probably my top passion in life.)

Okay, actually back to Word now. I needed to eat something. I was getting light-headed and my stomach was audibly growling.

tl;dr: GO WRITE SOMETHING I BELIEVE IN YOU

I've written jokes that are mostly dated now from when I wanted to try stand up but could never work up the nerve to go in front of people.
