Really? Having met Geoff and spoken to him a few times either online or in person, pretentious is one of the last words I'd use to describe him.

 

I wouldn't say he's pretentious necessarily I just feel like he'd like those types of books.

 

I guess you can separate being pretentious from having pretentious taste? Anyway, the book he wants to discuss is Infinite Jest, which was fairly well received critically. I haven't read it, but there's a large amount of glowing reviews online and the book has seemed to age well.

 

It's supposedly a masterpiece but also it's a thousand pages

 

I guess that's why he wants to read it over a few months. 75 pages a week or something.
