Like I'd honestly say that David Lynch has had a huge impact on me with his work. Eraserhead straight up melted my brain the first time I watched it and I've been in love with his work ever since.

 

Oh, for sure. That dude is a legend. I just want to pick his brain. Him and Kubrick are my biggest influences for sure. And I have both a Shining and a Twin Peaks tattoo so I’m a lil obsessed ha.

 

I was just thinking about The Shining today funny enough. Like that scene when Danny goes into Jack's room and talks to him after Jack is just staring blankly out the window, the scene is so tense to me because you genuinely feel unnerved as to whether Jack is going to do something to Danny or not just based on his tone of voice and body language. Dammit, I really need to rewatch that now, it is October after all.

 

So goooood. God I love that scene. I also love how Kubrick normalizes the abnormal. Like, there is the scene where Doc is showing Wendy and Danny around and they enter the freezer from the kitchen and when they leave the freezer they’re in the hallway, but there is something about the way that it is directed that causes the viewer not to notice. At least, it took me multiple viewings to catch onto things like that. Also, certain areas of the hotel just don’t make logical sense...god I love it

 

I think my favorite Kubrick shot is in 2001, when the two guys go into the capsule to discuss what HAL is doing while it just watches them from the background. It's such a brilliant use of perspective and adds this layer of creepiness to the scene.

 

Dammit, is there a film theory/discussion thread? If not, there needs to be, I want to talk film with people.

 

Ugh. The scene where he sings Daisy is GOAT. I’m not sure, I think there was a thread like that but it’s abandoned. There is foreign/independent film thread though, which is a little different but these topics might apply
