My best friend is a writer (journalist) and she mainly specialized in food and concerts and stuff for awhile but of course had to do a lot of articles she couldn't care less about. She recently had a stint of depression cus of the frustration having her passion be lead, controlled, and in turn in ways dried up. She has since gone back to freelance. Seems so much happier content wise, but she has alluded to fears with making bills.

I do think a lot of it is a generational thing, I mean shit... freelance writing especially has had the game change for example with the advent of the internet alone. Everyone got a blog lol.

I’ve structured my resume to highlight writing experience/hide my retail. I was tired of getting cold calls from recruiters thinking I wanted to go into commission only sales because of my “sales experience”

This is what I'm worried about/thinking I'll have to do when I finally get back into career and not just these plug and play jobs just to get a base built. I still get recruitment emails from my old job.

    Good luck @Garrett L.!

This is the first time since graduating college that I've had a gap for more than two months. The bigger it gets, the more I worry

I had a gap of years cus of crippling depression, wouldn't suggest it but it's not the end of the world. Hell, my Mom went back to work/school in 2007 for the first time in nearly 20 years cus of being a stay at home Mom. Got into law/patent law at first, now she's working under a lawyer making 30$ an hour.

It’s the worst feeling. I’m sorry you’re going through it. If you do have to bite the retail bullet, B&BW is easy and fills the time (during the holidays anyway) and pays decently.

hate to be the guy who quotes himself but I misrepresented.

She STARTED back with Home Depot and Michaels built a history of holding jobs down, got a gig doing minor graphic art for a lawyer that holiday season and about 2 years later got that first law/patent lawyer gig. Then built off that with that.

Her resume must've been so confusing back then, she had school for secretarial and art school (25-30 years prior), president of an art guild, did brochures for her guild and set up events and such and was trying to pitch THAT to get looks at first, it worked for her... one of the few things that give me hope, ha.

@iCarly Rae Jepsen state farm remark/post reminded me of this from last night

my dad was tryna talk to me about Las Vegas last and he must've been faded/drunk cus he couldn't remember "Las Vegas" so he said "You heard what happened Nationwide?" so I stood there very confused and went ".....Nationwide is on your side...? ...are you fucking with me?" (cus he use to do that "You know who called for you? - NOBODY!" joke all throughout my life) and he got mad and I guess it jogged his mind and he said 'NO, IN LAS VEGAS!"
and I was like oh, well wtf was that Nationwide shit? lol

not to bring up that again to dampen the mood but I was genuinely confused, like if life was a reaction gif my head would've turned to like a confused Peyton Manning face or something.

Would you rather have your next job be all mudding and you make 100k or no mudding and you make 85k?

lol my Dad has a really bad memory and vocabulary.... lot of head injuries from fighting and such don't help either.... it's become a lil bit of his loveable dummy personality, but there is times like this where you're just like "....What...?" lol

I figure he drew a blank and meant like in our country or something but you could've said anything to refer to that from attack to vegas to whatever, but nationwide? Head scratcher.

Thank you! I definitely need to look into seasonal retail.

wait is it too late to choose death?

if i provided my own vehicle for a full time mudding job i would spend 50k/year on gas and repairs

    oh wow.

But no, you cannot choose death.

So really I should have made the question "would you rather make 175k a year mudding in your own truck or make 100k a year not mudding at all?"
