It was a good movie but a horrible Godzilla movie. Elena is firmly on your side of the argument tho haha. Saying that movie sucks is like a trigger for her.

They built up the reveal of Godzilla way too hard. It adopted the superhero movie origin story trope. Godzilla is one of the most established characters in the history of planet Earth. No one wants to see Peter Parker get bit again, no one wants to see Bruce Wayne's parents get shot again, and I didn't want to see Godzilla take half of the movie to appear again.

Shin Godzilla, on the other hand, is Godzilla done near flawlessly. He is present throughout as an increasingly growing threat, he has multiple forms that makes some level of sense (starts as a more fish like creature). Full of awesome/sometimes surprisingly funny scenes of Japan's government trying to handle the issue. Watch Shin!

 

The reveal at the Honolulu airport is SO DAMN GREAT though.
