The trope of it is more the issue, the "let's hire you some titties before you get tied to the ball and chain amirite?!?!" bit of it. More of a funeral for being single than a celebration of getting married.

Yeah, I mean, I suppose traditionally it’s sexist in that it is like a celebration of your last day of “freedom.” (Though, we shouldn’t just ignore that bachelorette parties also exist and are typically riddled with penis shaped candy, straws, and also feature strippers etc) However, the meaning has sort of been co-opted and is more a celebration of getting married, imo.

 

Yeah, I just wouldn't say every bachelor or bachelorette party is sexist by nature. Some of them definitely are though.

Stereotypically the idea is that you get to have fun for the last time in your life because all women are shrews so you look at sex workers, I guess it can be the other way like what Joe's doing but there's still an icky cloud for me

 

So I ended up unfriending someone for posting a shitty meme about Rick and Morty and Bojack Horseman. Like the context was that people shouldn’t idolize them because they’re shitty people, something we could all agree with to a point. What made led me to it was how it was presented. It started by saying “HEY DIPSHITS”, not a good start and then it proceeds to blame people for being shitty for being able to relate to the characters.

Like I understand that some people need to be told that but there are more constructive ways to address that than being mean and condescending about it. Plus, this person put down my looks some time back recently and made me very self-conscious about myself, which I’m still working to get past so there wasn’t much goodwill there anyway.

Sorry for the rant, btw, I just needed to vent.

That's a good point. Basically every bachelor party I've been to is like Joe's, so I think I'm blinded by my own perspective.

 

My roommate just threw a bachelor party a month or so ago for his friend from college. He was marrying his college sweetheart and their mutual friend, and she is fantastic. What Matt and the other groomsmen did was set up activities like field hockey and stuff at their old college campus. His friend Nick recreated all their college IDs complete with blundery, just out of high school photos. They ordered a box of old Magic boosters off ebay to do a draft like they used to do with the cards that were out at the time. Went to the calzone place they lived off of to get empty calzone boxes to fill with little shooters as gift bags. It was honestly one of the sweetest things I've ever seen anyone do for anyone, I was blown away at the care (and insane money) that was put into it.

 

I'll never have a bachelor party but I DID have a "last moment of fun" celebration before I had my first kid where I went on a vacation because I thought I'd never get to travel again

Little did I know parents get to have lives

 

I do think people idolize Rick too much but don't say it in a way that also makes you a dick

 

Yeah, it's definitely not going to be weird with that shit. We're going to breweries, enjoying good beers, shooting the shit, and probably stumbling around downtown GR having a good time. It's a celebration, not the weird "it's ur last time out before u get married!!!" those kind of bachelor parties are super weird and uncomfortable

 

I changed my mind I'm having a bachelor party

 

I guess I should watch some of these shows y'all are discussing.

 

Also, I’ve met couples that are very okay with their significant others getting strippers and going wild, so that is something to consider as well. If you’re doing that behind your SO’s back, that’s one thing, but if it’s agreed upon, then so be it

Edit: personally, if I get married I’d like to just go drinking and maybe dance like a baffoon, nothing too crazy, but if people wanna go nuts ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
