I've done it a few times, gotten different results each time for sure. I'd probably stick with it but
1. I don't like the politics of comedy and
2. It's very hard to do while raising children + working until 7pm since all the open mics require registration at that time

 

I was going to try and get a couple minutes to do it at a DIY show that was put on a couple months ago, but then noticed there were like 10-15 people on the bill so (kind of relieved) backed out

 

let's find a bar central to us all and we can put on A1 comedy night and therefore bring in a group of people in the crowd who are (ostensibly) on our sides

 

I would love to do it but the crowds here are just so awful, we're in the heart of like a billion colleges so it's faces buried in Macbooks and I've seen such talented people get such little respect

I don't need to get a ton of laughs or applause to feel good but I would need to at least feel like I had people's attention

 

I'd be like Dee in Always Sunny if I tried to do standup

My real life friends assure me I'm hilarious but I'm also 2000% self conscious and think i have zero talent in anything so

 

Yup 100%

People talk about being afraid people won't laugh, but that's nothing compared to people not paying attention

 

That's the big reason I won't do comedy much in Dallas too

Each open mic there are about 30-50 people. The politics in Dallas comedy favor people who do open mics every night and establish themselves as regulars, so they get the good spots. Single parents such as myself who can't do that...we get slotted anywhere between midnight and 2am. There's about 10 people there at that time. It's not fun

However in Fort Worth I got to do 45 minutes middling for Randy and Mr Lahey or whatever their fuckin names are and that was a blast

I killed it that night

It was draft night so I opened with a joke like "Ezekiel Elliott will be perfect for the Cowboys someday, I can already imagine his first assault"
