I definitely hear the happier sound being debated here. This band goes to the major chord progression well way more on their most recent two records than they ever did on the first few, and the choruses are much more prominent and anthemic these days. That stuff was always there, but they were just more sparing with it Buuuut I also just happen to still like it haha — super happy with this record
Definitely into this album, but it does feel different from the rest of the discography. BUT I think a lot of that is because they are 10 years older and their voices do sound 10 years older, not in a bad way though. Also, at times I actually get early Four Year Strong / Set Your Goals vibes from the album
Who is singing at the start of Downtown Start II??? Sounds like Spike from Me First and The Gimmie Gimmies......
I wanna say that's Nuno. There is definitely some weird singing on the whole album. It seems like Nuno and Trevor have a different singing voice on each of the songs.
Brian really freaked it on this one man, some of these bass parts are unbelievable There are just so many moments on this thing that could only be AWS. They ignite some type of feeling for me, so happy to have a new record
Album threw me for a minute with all the new things Trevor and Nuno are trying vocally. I’ve since calibrated and can confirm the record rips!
Yeah, I can’t tell which is which on some parts. I like them trying something new, but some of the clean vocals don’t work as well for me. I wish I was as blown away as everyone here is because I’m a big fan. I’ll keep listening and I’m sure it’ll click
Production and maybe vocal wise it’s certainly a bit different from the rest of the discog but when you really hone in on the songwriting and technical proficiency of their playing, it’s classic AWS through and through
Pretty sure the first time I ever found out about SYG was because they opened a less than jake show that my brother went to that I believe AWS was also opening
I was too young to go to shows at that time but my brother passed down all the discoveries he made from that era which is how I got into all this stuff haha
This is a good mix of SYG, DBS, FYS and even some ETID on a song (a little). I dig it! The vocals harmonies…
Speaking of vocal stylings, can someone with the physical tell me if Trevor is doing a hell of a Chris Hanna impression at the end of "...And Big Nasty Was It's Name-O", or is it the real deal (or someone else singing entirely)? Am I the only one who hears it? Song's my current obsession off the album.
I’m embarrassed to say I’ve never listened to these guys…holy fuck this is incredible. Edit: This is the most fun and engaged I’ve been with an album this year. Looks like I have quite the back catalog to check out!
This album keeps getting better, I keep coming back to it, fantastic record, I love the “happier” sound. So cool that I keep finding new things, I’m hearing new details every time I play this album, they are just so good in what they do
