I like it so far but I think it’ll be a grower. Career suicide is peak for me. Partycrasher took me some time to get into also.

If it's a grower, it would have to be my favorite of their albums because I'm having an absolute blast with these songs and have been since the first listen.

Same. I'm kind of surprised that this isn't really landing for me. I can't put my finger on it.

I have a feeling in 2028 when A Wilhelm Scream are teasing their next album we’ll all be saying “I hope it’s as good as Lose Your Delusion”

We didn't do that for Partycrasher though :)

I think I like this band best when they feel angry, darker, etc. The more upbeat sounding songs just don't land for me here at all. It's like this just isn't *angry* enough for me. I don't know. They mention that they went for a few catchy, big sing-along choruses in a few songs in order to offset the darker lyrical content on those songs - that sound just doesn't work for me at all.

I fucking love stuff like Apocalypse Porn and Lose Your Delusion a lot though.

Partycrasher was my first A Wilhelm Scream album and ultimately my favorite.

Partycrasher is good. I just really love the stretch of Mute Print/Ruiner/Career Suicide. I don't think this album or Partycrasher have objective issues wrong with it, just that this version of A Wilhelm Scream isn't really for me. Which is okay. I hope people love this album! There's no denying that they're super proud and stoked of it. Just not my thing.

First impressions: Feels closer to Ruiner than Career Suicide. Wish there was more Nuno on vocals. Not as immediate as I expected it to be from reading the forums. Feeling lukewarm on it so far, but gonna spend more time with it.

  12. Dark is not really how I would ever have described the band. Fast melodic punk with catchy choruses. Which they have in spades, here, seems pretty par for the course.

yeah they’ve always been way more on the melodic side of melodic hardcore than a band like, say, defeater. now they’re dark. this band is more classic punk and pop punk inspired. always put them alongside no trigger and strung out in my brain, two bands I associate with good times and having fun

Darker, not dark. I don't think it's a stretch to say that this album is significantly more upbeat and has a brighter tone to the guitars than Ruiner or Career Suicide.

  17. Don’t really hear it. Reminds me a whole lot of CS with 2022 lyrics. And I’ve listened to all three a loooot. And Ruiner reminds me of skateboarding all day in sunny Cali and getting drunk with friends at night.

when my older brother showed me all three of those bands around the time I was 14-15 my life changed forever haha. career suicide, canyoneer , and blackhawks over LA is the holy trifecta of this genre for me

I don't think songs like Gimmetheshakes, Be One To No One, Figure Eights, and The Enigma would really fit on Career Suicide or Ruiner at all. Likewise, something like The Horse, Cold Slither, and Jaws 3 wouldn't really sound right on Lose Your Delusion.

Digging this album a lot and I think the falsetto oohs might be the brighter territory being referred to?

My group chat is having the same debate about this album, whether it fits with that run of albums or not. lol. I need to duck out for the night but I genuinely respect y'all's opinion on this album, it just isn't for me. Band still rules.

this is one of the elements for suuuuuuure, but it's only one song to be fair

  23. Disagree. Feel like you could easily swap them in, master them the same, and they’d work pretty well. Clearly very much of the same vein, and “The Enigma” would be right up there with “show me a song that defines the band.”

The guitars at the start of The Enigma are vintage A Wilhelm Scream. I could argue the same as Jason, master it differently and it could go on any album
