back in my moviepass days I would've already seen this four times

 

The initial Shallow performance is really up there with the best scenes this year. The only other thing to elicite as strong of an emotional reaction from me this year was Beale Street.

2018 really the return of the Great Hollywood Drama.

 

i've loved his work for some time now but it's fucking unreal how good Elliott is in this

It's a bop and a meta commentary about how it's hard to tell if pop earworms are objectively good like its predecessor My Humps

 

I kind of felt that Ally's pop career was more of a manifestation of the impurity Jack was distasteful with the music industry. Her SNL performance, and that song, at least to me kind of embellished on that.

It's true

 

i honestly don't think that the movie was framing Jackson to be right in the whole authenticity thing

 

Thanks for the link. I don’t really see it as begging damaging in a way. I also think the relation to conservatism as a means of negative influence is kind of a stretch. As she progressed with her manager she was losing what she wanted to say.

 

I also didn’t take it as Jackson being like “look I was right” after the last act. I don’t think he wanted to be apart of hiding what Ally had to say because of his behavior. I also think there were plenty of other factors in his life and past.

 

I think Bradley is definitely more into southern rock than pop, but yeah they could have done more to show Ally's pop career

 

The only thing that made me pause was how much time it was between Shallow and the Grammys, like at least a year and change right?

 

I saw it as Jackson having been bruised and broken from the demands of record labels/music business and pressure to stay relevant and wanted to protect Ally from having to deal with the same issues. He believed if she remained authentic to her art, the business/media wouldn't tear her down over the years

 

he was bruised by a lot more than the music industry. the conversation with the counselor in rehab showing what had been looming and bound to happen in his life since he was pre-pubescent showed that.

 

Yea thinking back he's always been a drinker since he was a teenager and the animosity between his brother stemming before he got famous

 

That first shot of him getting into the car after the show and pulling around that big billboard was pretty in your face as well.
