I highly recommend anyone who enjoyed this to watch the 1954 Judy Garland starring George Cukor directed version. It’s one of the best American films of the 1950s and genuinely thrilling.

 

No it’s definitely adapted.

 

I think Blackkklansman is the front runner for adapted right now.

 

I think Coops has Best Actor locked up unless Bale pulls some truly transcendent Oscar bait shit in VICE which is v possible

Gaga will definitely get nominated but Best Actress is always super competitive so idk if I'd call her winning rn

 

or Redford because that's a great story and the Academy loves giving people career awards for one performance, sorry Hugh Jackman and Willem Dafoe

 

I think they're both locks at this point, but Gaga's chances of winning are a lot higher. Bradley Cooper is really great though and I hope his performance isn't downplayed because he's really great too.

This is the scene that got me the most honestly.

 

Seems like it might be Viggo vs. Cooper for Actor and Glenn Close vs. Gaga for Actress. I'd be ok with any of these winners (although I haven't seen Green Book).

Saw this yesterday and enjoyed it more than I thought I would... the trailer really sets I up to be Oscar bait but went after seeing the glowing reviews. Pretty much everything that’s been said here I agree. Terrific performances for the two, not that familiar with GaGa’s work aside from the hits when she first broke out. Then seeing her sing in this, I’m reminded why she is where she is, because she has an amazing and powerful voice. Didn’t expect to feel emotional towards the end. Also the Grammy’s scene one of the most cringiest scenes I’ve seen in recent memory.

 

I love when they say the title of the movie in the movie.

Also, I could have sworn that was Miles Teller as the young musician singing Pretty Woman but Google isn’t confirming it for me.

It was some guy named Marlon Williams. He does look like Miles Teller though.
