  2. Well I've liked all the excerpts I've read so far. I'll probably give myself indigestion with how quickly I devour this whenever it does come out.

I'd think the same thing but DWD took about three weeks since it was so goddamn slow and uneventful. I have little faith that WoW (damn that acronym) will be faster paced or purposeful but a man can believe.

The main review on Amazon for DWD is hilarious and totally spot on about the book. If you haven't read it, take a few minutes and do so.

If a Dance with Dragons is uneventful then so is every other book aside from the third and I just don't get why you'd read the series.

I'm only a third of the way through Dance but I haven't had a much of a problem with it so far. I think it just has a lot to do with how strong Swords was. If I went back to read the first two books I'm sure I'd feel similarly to them as I do for Feast/Dance. I mean, in hindsight I'm afraid of Thrones being my least favorite book just because of how focused it is on the Starks and I don't find them particularly interesting to begin with.

Part of me wonders if I'm just getting sick of Martin's shtick. A lot of repetition ("you know nothing, Jon Snow", "where do whores go?") and constant descriptions / lists of food, armor decals THAT ARE NO LONGER IN A FUCKING ROOM.

Characters continue to mumble about making no progress. Questioning themselves, floating in boats on rivers, talking about Others at the Wall and boy is it cold.

I believe Martin has said that he doesn't know how the series will end, and I've seen article headers saying he may even follow or get ideas from what the show does now that it's bypassed the books and after finishing Dragons I very much believe that. and that's awful if true.

That's absolutely not true. He knows how the series is ending for the all of the major characters, it's the minor ones that he has said he isn't completely sure about.

Nah, he definitely knows where it's ending. I like the repetition since it plays more into those characters psyche. It shows what is really digging at these characters.

  10. Dance is top 3 in the series for me

@iam1bearcat sounds like you don't really like any of the books

Nah. I love Swords (like everyone else), really liked Feast and Thrones. Can't remember much about Kings but I know it introduced a hell of a lot of new characters, which was fun and expanded the world.

Feast was slower paced but was well-structured with the politics and some repercussions of Swords. But Dragons didn't continue the political intrigue. Daeny did what she's done in all her storylines and Tyrion wasn't as entertaining or interesting as he was in previous books. I also found Jon's reasoning to leave the Wall, which lead to, you know, to be weak. Why wouldn't he just wait for B to come to the Wall, where Jon would have support and know the layout better? Meh.

Also, DWD was very lacking in dragons and dancing.

Here's the latest sample chapter it's an Aeron chapter called The Foresaken. This one is brutal, Euron is really terrible

I haven't ready any sample chapter. How many are there now?

  14. That's a good question. These last two, the Mercy one, and I'm blanking on any potential others. Was there a Jeyne Poole one or am I making that up?

I saw bits of info from the Euron one but I'm not going to read it. At this point, it's getting a bit ridiculous that he keeps releasing these but still hasn't finished.

Just finished A Game of Thrones and now starting A Clash of Kings. Seeing as it's been six years since I saw season one it was still fun to read. I think having a frame of reference for things made it easier to digest since there are a lot of people and places to keep track of. Hopefully by the time I finish all this shit TWOW will be out. LOL syke.

At this point, I wonder if I should start a reread. I've only gone once through.

On A Feast for Crows and the number of new characters and stuff is getting overwhelming. I imagine I won't need to actually know who these people are in the long run but geez. Still enjoying my read though, but I keep looking at maps and family trees.

I love a Feast for Crows in hindsight. It is a really grueling read but I enjoy it when assessing all the information and world-building. But god damn is the execution a bore at times.

i tore a hole in the fabric of time Moderator

The idea of re-reading this for the third time exhausts me, but I’ll definitely have to whenever TWoW is re-released. I don’t remember most of where things have ended.

But the boiled leather reading is absolutely how I would do it.
