This would be a legit cool thing to explore, and would be a way of maybe showing us some of Elissa Farman's story without having to introduce us to a brand new character.
It's still there, twitter is down. But he basically said he has more to write for Dunk and Egg and Fire and Blood, and he "could" finish TWOW soon but doesn't feel like writing for it at times.
I hope he never finishes, the discourse around the differences he'll have from the show will be insufferable.
Nah by the time it did come out, we'd be far enough away from the show ending at that point that people will mostly just be like "yeah this was better than the show" lol
At this point I don't know why he doesn't bring in a co-writer to help him. He is already doing collaborating type of writing with the TV shows (though sounds like those always did not go well but he would have more control here). Feel like that would even allow him to have someone pick up the mantle if he passes away before the series gets finished. But I also didn't come up with the idea for these books, he did, so can't really understand how that would feel for him.
He said he'd basically rather die than pass it off to someone else, and it that means his work remains unfinished then so be it.
I can’t imagine there’s a single person at his publishers/on his team that wants him to work on D&E or F&B over printing them infinitely more money with TWOW. Who is pressuring him otherwise?!
Would there even be discourse? lol We’ve pretty much been living in this period now and I can’t imagine anyone having much of a different emotional reaction if we never get any other book, especially since every person jokes “it’ll never be finished” and is fairly convinced even if Winds of Winter came out how the hell would ANOTHER come after haha
I like to think GoT actually did use his planned ending, and he's been delaying himself because of how negatively it was received.
I would bet large sums of money that some form of Dany dying and Bran being King is the ending, but we all know he’s going to get us to that point way better than D&D did. I’m more unclear on Jon’s ending. Also I think he was saying there’s more pressure from the publishers to do Winds, not the other stories. But the other ones will sell like crazy too, so they’ll still make money. but yeah does he even need advances from publishers any more? Dudes got more money than he’ll ever need, so not having to meet a deadline to survive money wise definitely hurts his motivation lol
Posting here rather than the show thread since we now know they are likely doing three Dunk and Egg seasons at minimum so don't want to spoil that thread about future events, but Dexter Sol Ansell may have accidentally spoiled information that GRRM shared with them that hasn't been published yet lol. I hyperlinked the tweet because the caption of the post says it outright, just in case in body doesn't want to see it.
Also thank you to Morgan for making this bump so I didn't have to but I wanted to say this now, based on that interview he did...we're def getting a new dunk and egg collection soon aren't we? Like what I took from what he said was it sounds like stories 4 and 5 are basically finished, if not actually finished, and he just hasn't published due to the assumed backlash he would get publishing another new book or story ASOIAF related that isn't Winds. But it's clear he's been writing other stuff (and frankly I agree with the theory that this is actually good for him and Winds progress because it gets the creative juices flowing and probably sparks some inspiration for him in Winds), and with the huge success the show seems to be, it would probably really lessen the backlash a bit. I mean I would LOVE to get an announcement by the end of this season, but I'm willing to go out on a limb and predict that maybe we get another 3 story collection announced or even published by the start of season 2?
