It’s not uncommon for fantasy to build a rich history. Lord of the Rings is probably a better comp than Star Wars. Now if he could stop worrying about everything but the last two goddamn books in the main story he started that would be nice
I read what the reasoning was, but it just seems a lot more complicated than just calling it the Eight Kingdoms. They started saying Six Kingdoms immediately after they okayed the North's secession. I'll use the United States as an example. Most people know we are made up of states, but then you have to explain that Washington D.C. is not a state. Then you also have to explain that much later we called a new state Washington but it is on the other side of the country. Also, when someone says New York they might mean the state or they might mean the city, which is made up of five boroughs, but when people in New York City say they are going to the city they mean Manhattan. That stuff is confusing to outsiders but it is a product of a long history and there is no editor. In fiction you can do whatever you want. That's why all the major characters in a story have different names even though there are at least four people at my job with the same first name as me.
I haven't read the books but hopefully there is a better conclusion for characters like Jaime Lannister. His evolution in the show was so fascinating until the end.
Royal families, yeah. All the V names in House of the Dragon makes it seem even more confusing than the main show.
Yeah this is my feel as well. I think we end up with the same ruler on the Iron Throne in the end, but trust George to get us there waaaaay more that the way D&D did. Just reallllllly interested to find out how he handles Jon and Dany (and fAegon). I Imagine fAegon is going to be a lot of the impetus behind Dany's evolution into brutal killer. Jon's fate and if those two link up, I still have no idea how that will work. I don't know how he gets us there in 2 books either tbh lol
It’s just hard to imagine Arya/faceless men, Jamie, Euron, and everything Dorne playing out similar to the way it was in the show. Also big things like Lady Stoneheart would make the journey wildly different
Yeah it was a bummer but it makes sense, she is barely in the story and I don't even know if GRRM knows where he is going with that storyline lol
Yeah I really don't get where that is going to go lol. I imagine she'll just hang around doing things in the background here and there and then when the White Walkers are eliminated, the "magic" that animates her will also go away.
Love to get a not blog update where George tells us not only did his progress on Winds slow down in recent weeks/months but he also got covid. George..you gotta take care of yourself man.
