Just some random thoughts after finishing the season: - These books are the peak of the series for me, and I really think they pulled it off for this adaptation. Moving from the procedural formula and a funnier Olaf into the darker tone, more fluid structure, and more villainous Olaf of the later books so successfullly is a testament to the excellent art design and performances. - NPH is so perfect for this role and the kids are even better this season. Loved Nathan Fillion, the Libriarian, and Esmé as well. - Hostile Hospital’s references to The Shining were amazing, and Olaf’s line in Carnivorous Carnival about spending 9 years on a TV show in the city was the perfect HIMYM dig. The dialogue is so witty, just like the books - The ending of this season was so, so bleak. changing the origin of Lulu made her death way more impactful, almost jarringly so- I guess the actress from Get Out is going to play Kit Snicket?
Halfway through Vile Village at the moment. As with last season, it's a fun watch. I do still wish the tone was a little more in line with books - the tension feels almost completely removed and I don't think it has to be, even with the absurdist angle they're going for. The Lemony Snicket narration is excellently done though and I'm enjoying the extra VFD material. Was delighted to see Tony Hale make an appearance in Ersatz Elevator as well.
Looking back, it's crazy how fast Handler cranked through these books. He put out three of these books a year, two years in a row
I think I'm going to read through the whole series again soon because I barely remember anything from the last four books. I think I must have read them once or twice each when they came out and haven't read them since. What's the consensus on The End? I remember being a little disappointed when it came out but I was only eleven then and I never went back to it.
I would've preferred a more definitive or happy ending, but then again Snicket said from the beginning that there are no happy endings.
Haha yeah that's exactly why I did it, from the very beginning you can tell this show is shot beautifully. Definitely looks great
Was obsessed with these books as a kid. I think I only made it up to The Penultimate Peril though and never read The End. I forget basically everything that happened in them, though I feel like The Slippery Slope was one of my favorites. I guess I should add this to my never ending list of things to watch
Thought S2 was a big improvement on S1, though a lot of that might be due to the source material Hector really got shafted in the tv show tho. Barely a character.
I know what Carmelita is supposed to be annoying and horrible in the books, but she is just too annoying and terrible for me hah. It's faithful, but every scene with her makes me cringe and wish someone would smack her lol.
Finally finished S2 and this is one of the most undersppreciated shows on television l. It is wonderfully shot and the absurd humour has made me laugh more than most shows that are traditionally aimed at me. It's a shame because the I think the YA book association has hurt the potential audience. I likely wouldn't have watched it if I didn't already have a love for the series as a kid, and instead of a nostalgia trip I got a really compelling mystery, excellent worldbuilding, a cinematic understanding of framing and some really bizarre/literary jokes that got big laughs and don't pander to the more casual audience I assumed they were hoping for Only complaint is the musical numbers but all in all this is really exceptional
I’m on episode two and started doing some research. I found this and am really disappointed: How Will Publishing Deal With Lemony Snicket Amid #MeToo?
