Finally got around to Eisenberg’s interview on The Big Picture. Really enjoyable listen. Lots of interesting stuff to be said about this movie even from its conception, which was originally a completely different movie (as I imagine many are)

I knew I was going to love Culkin's performance in this, so the surprise for me was Eisenberg. There were a lot of quiet moments that spoke a lot without him saying a word. Just a glance.

Watched it a second time with the parents. Really good stuff. Did not realize the actress in it is Jennifer Grey!

The formula is pretty well-worn at this point, but there is real emotion there in the way Eisenberg struggles to compartmentalize his safe, boring life with the horrors of his ancestors.

I finally saw this last night. So good.

Culkin portraying a guy who uses a absurd and carefree personality to mask a deep sadness is always going to be great.

That whole sequence of Benjy freaking out about the hypocrisy of them being in first class, to them missing their stop, to them sneaking on the other train and ending back on first class, then acknowledging it was some brilliant writing.

I watched A Real Pain earlier on and it's really good and Kieran Culkin is definitely a lock to be oscar nominated for best supporting actor.. I say he's the frontrunner to win it but I thought Jessie Eisenberg was really good as well as he did a great job writing and directing

thought this was decent! wanted a bit more depth to the plot and story beats but I get that Eisenberg has been calling himself a playwright more than a screenwriter and it has a feeling of a character-based play more than anything else

  13. Nope nope nope I was completely wrong about this lmao. He definitely says David

it is funny that people are fawning over keiran's performance (it's very good!) and he's going to sweep all the awards and it's just assumed that both this and roman roy are him basically being him

Agreed! I think he just makes it look so easy and natural, it’s captivating. At the beginning and end, my parents were like “We know that guy. We know several guys that are exactly like that.” Also, Jesse deserves an equal amount of praise, but he’s going against some huge hitters.

I think they both were just basically themselves which is what makes the movie work so well

I don't think his will win anything at the Oscars besides Supporting Actor, but this feels like the type of film that will do really well at the Independent Spirit awards.

I really enjoyed this. The entire tone of the movie was great, from the Chopin score to the scene-setting shots of Poland to the dynamic of the cousins. Felt very real and heartfelt.
