It's the perfect closer for this album and even their career, if that's what it turns out to be. Almost 3 Libras or Orestes league in its devastating emotional impact, but seems to have an even firmer sense of resignation and finality.
I think it's because it's sneaky good. It creeps up on you and all of a sudden you realize it's been pretty amazing for a quite a while.
Honestly I'm shocked how much I like this, it's the perfect chill for me. I think the beginning half might be stronger, which I don't think is a super common viewing? Maybe that'll change as I listen more.
Great album. Favorite songs are So Long And Thanks For All The Fish, Delicious, Hourglass, The Contrarian, and The Doomed.
Make sure you check out the 2013 version from their compilation disc if you haven't yet. IMO that one's much better with thicker layered instrumentals and Maynard not pulling the hokey vocal styling he does on this new one.
So I listened to this in full finally. Overall I like it. My biggest complaint is that the first 10 minutes or so really seem to drag. The first couple songs are fine on their own, but together they just make for a really slow start to the album I feel. From "The Contrarian" on the album is good to great though.
I feel the opposite. The first three songs set a great atmospheric start, and then come the jams with So Long/Talk Talk.
I really love the opening track the atmospheric slow jams really give Maynard’s voice a platform to stretch and shine through
I dunno. Maybe I just need to give them more time. Disillusioned still doesn't do much for me and the title track didn't really on first listen either. The remaining 10 have been much more immediate.
