v surprised at how much i like "hourglass." maynard kinda goes wild but the instrumentation is so wish-era cure that i'm mesmerized
Gonna give it a second good listen today. First time through was ok, seems like a very front loaded album.
Man, I need to listen to "Hats" again - now that's moody But "Talk Talk" is the only worthy song on this album
I saw them in May of last year and they played Hourglass and Feathers; sounded great and I am 1000% happy with how they translated to studio version.
Much better on a second listen. Still not really feeling "Hourglass" that much and "Get The Lead Out" is such a dull closer that goes on for two minutes too long. Everything else is good to great.
Title track proves that Maynard is still damn near the best vocalist in rock music at 54. Also that some of the heavy handed processing (even auto-tuning?) of his vocal tracks on other songs was a dumb move.
Fish has been stuck in my head since I listened to this album yesterday, what a song. I’m enjoying the later half of this album a lot more after a few more listens now. I’m proper happy with this album and I can’t wait till June when I’m seeing them in London.
With every listen it gets better. I was sold on the first listen but every time you listen you learn to appreciate it so much more.
Listened to this again today! Took the kids to the zoo and listened to the first five tracks on the way there and the rest of the album on the way home. My three year old daughter told me she liked it :)
Same here. It was close to the holidays and we’d spent a lot on gifts so I made the responsible decision to pass on seeing them in Cleveland. :/
