I feel like if they changed their name the overall reception would be way better. It is way different than their other work, but I'm enjoying it so much more. So much more subtle in ways that I think makes for better songs.
I love their old stuff but am also enjoying the hell out of this... it's definitely a shift though, no denying that.
Alright, still not into this. It's not "bad" per say, but it's not really memorable. Circa Survive, Hands Like Houses and I the Mighty are all similar to this, but way better. (in my opinion) Conversation Piece and No Place are still dope though. And I'm totally content with A Lot Like Birds only having two albums for me.
I can see a little circa in some of the guitar parts on the latter half. hands like houses hasn't touched any of the ALLB albums. I the mighty has lost me more and more with each album. I hope their next one is as focused as this.
Does anyone think this record is mixed kinda quietly? Idk, when listening through I just always get the feeling that some of the louder sections should be more dynamic than they are
Havnt gone back to this since hearing those live videos... we will see, I loved the record last week but idk... it bothers me if the vocalist can't even come close to performing the record live.
A Lot Like Birds: The Music And The Lyrics Of 'DIVISI' Cool write up about the music and lyrics for each song
As for I the Mighty yeah I loved their ep to death, and then their other two albums have just been ok. Satori being their better LP, but still way too much filler.
Been jamming No Attention for Solved Puzzles like crazy, that chorus is a powerhouse. I love the transition after the bridge.
I think infinite chances has emerged as my favorite after a tight battle with the sound of us, tho that may be because I overplayed the video. The vocal melodies in both just put me on a cloud and the lyrics just hit real close to home right now.
I was going to give it another spin but I honestly don't even want to. I'm a huge Kurt fan and once he left- I kind of lost interest. Oh well.
As much as I'm still not sold on this album, I'm extremely happy that this group of musicians will (hopefully) have another chance to win me over again.
after some more listens i'm starting to come around more on the second half of the album; unfortunately for them there's too many other releases these past couple weeks to afford too much time to it
