I wonder if that’s how George’s short stories are laid out. I always assumed they’d all be about egg’s time as a squire, never aging type of thing
Ok seasons 1-5 of Dunk & Egg stuff including the currently unpublished stuff Then phase 2 the Third Blackfyre Rebellion, the Peake Uprising, and probably the Great Council and Blood Raven's banishment pulled from the eventual Blood & Fire Then phase 3 the Fourth Blackfyre Rebellion, Lyonel Baratheon's rebellion, and Summerhall also from Blood & Fire
I just realized Egg also plays young Snow that we see in the flashback at the beginning of Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
I meant from the book, we’re at the point where I completely forget everything that happens until the climax of the story haha glad I resisted doing a re-read so I can be surprised somewhat again
don’t wanna do spoilers for folks in here so won’t ask about future plot points…. but does that scene with the game runner asking Dunk to be in on the Ashford son losing a joust to him happen in the story? Truly don’t remember that. I think the Egg meeting Ser Robyn Rhysling in the fields was added for the show too, I liked that little interaction and flashback to him losing an eye haha
Another fun episode. Egg’s song about the Blackfyre rebellion was great. Also “is it strange that I have a black hair growing out of my stones?” “It’s strange that you’re telling me about it” lmao That brokenfinger was brutal ugh. Aerion is such a psychopath @imthegrimace tonight was the big “twist” everyone was talking about so you’re in the clear haha. But obviously avoid spoilers for future happenings.
okay I thought so haha. I honestly can’t remember much from between the beginning of the story and the climax, other than knowing about what Aerion was gonna to do Tansell Too Tall that got Dunk all fired up
I don’t get why the guy even told Dunk about the guy taking a dive when it wouldn’t involve Dunk having to do something he wasn’t already planing to do
my wife said the same thing, but I think it’s a combo of chivalry and wanting the guarentee…like the son has already proven he’s good in front of everyone so he can’t just go out there and completely suck, he still has to “try”, but they want his opponent to know that he’s trying to lose so that said opponent and go in without fear and be more aggressive going for the unhorsing. That and perhaps they’re trying to get better odds on a longshot knight to do it so they can get a better payout?
And also it sounds like in this joust the knights get to “challenge” aka pick their opponents, so trying to get Dunk to pick the Ashford boy before someone else does?
I like that the spectre of the Blackfyre Rebellion is just kinda hanging over everything.. Hearing Daemon Blackfyre's name uttered on screen was cool.
I don't know any of the lore of the Blackfyre Rebellion stuff besides the fact that the guy was a Targaryan bastard, but I do like how Egg clearly has it ingrained in him to hate anything associated with Blackfyre despite also clearly knowing how awful his own family is
