Really enjoyed this. Not nearly as wild as The Substance but definitely some similarities thematically.
Really liked the first half and I loved Adam Pearson. But it lost me post-transformation and never really got me back. I kind of see now why they kept this a very limited release. It’s got kind of a crazy tone. Still, I understand why people love it, but it ultimately didn’t connect for me.
“Funny” was exactly what I was hoping to hear about this. Won’t have time to see this til at least Sunday but I’ve got high hopes
Was going to see Megalopolis but the timing didn’t work out so I saw this instead and it was great. the run from the apartment showing in the mask through to the Michael Shannon cameo killed me
This rocked. Amazing performances all around. I never watched a trailer and had completely forgotten Renate was in this Don’t know if its just because I had to pee for like 80% of this but it is the most anxious I’ve felt across a film since… I guess probably Shiva Baby? The guy in the HR video going “hey have you seen Sally anywhere” killed me and the one other person in the theater
Forgot to post here, but I really enjoyed this. Reminded me more of Seconds (or Flowers for Algernon to a lesser extent) than it did The Substance. A movie filled with a thousand frightening jokes about getting exactly what you wanted. No matter how hard you try, you can't escape yourself. Sebastian Stan and Adam Pearson were both great.
Thought this was pretty brilliant. I went into it not really knowing much about it and I loved how caustically funny it ended up being. Really into how it was shot as well.
Really loved this. I would agree that it jumps the shark just a bit in the third act, and Ingrid Vold felt a little wooden to me, but this was just so dark and funny and SO stylishly directed. The score was perfect. Probably gonna end up in my top three for the year.
This was very good. Compared to The Substance it is much more thoughtful and has more questions about the role our outward appearance can have.
Oswald still being kind to him and calling him his friend as he unconsciously steals the life he wanted is such a great destruction of Edward's vanity. Being posted up in a full body cast while he watches his enemy make life plans with the love of his life is like a Looney Tunes bit.
