I’ve never cried this much in a theater

Wow this was so much more challenging and esoteric than I expected it to be, while still packing a huge emotional wallop.

Surprising how many mature themes they were able to pack in this PG movie, much like the children’s show

I feel like Marielle Heller might be the most empathetic American filmmaker since Demme.

the scene of Hanks as Rogers as Daniel behind the scenes.... i really can’t think of another actor doing that and another director taking the time to make it that intimate

I love Hanks and he’s great in this and it’s still not even in my top five male supporting performances of the year. Such a stacked category.

I couldn't see Tom as Mr Rogers, he was just Tom Hanks in a sweater but Tom Hanks in a sweater can also be my therapist so that's okay
I liked how they captured how some people can just speak to you and you feel seen with Mr Rogers' interactions with everyone, and also how he didn't feel the need to sugarcoat life so kids could understand it

I was trying to think of who Matthew reminded me of in this and eventually I realized it was Chris Messina

this and Can You Ever Forgive Me could switch titles and it would almost make sense

Finally saw this tonight and I am just completely overcome, loved it so so much. It will be an instant blu ray purchase as soon as it comes out because I can so easily see myself going back to it when I need something soothing that’s still challenging and powerful. I knew I would like it but I’m sort of stunned at how perfectly it was suited to my exact interests.

Is this world stopped asking what it's thinking?

Cried 3 separate times in the theater yesterday, mostly due to sentimental timing (I watched it on the one year anniversary of my grandma’s death and I grew up watching MRN at her house) and dealing with dad issues in his own time of passing. It was like a sniper to my tear ducts and I am grateful for it. Just a delightful film.

I loved this. I also haven’t wanted to emulate someone on screen this much since Sean Astin’s portrayal of Samwise Gamgee. Hahaha

He was absolutely robbed to not win awards for that portrayal.

  17. This was good. Rhys is great at playing someone who holds a lot of anger, and I found myself relating a lot to aspects of his character. Hanks brought his tenderness to the role, and it worked as well as you can hope for someone trying to emulate Mr. Rogers. This was a movie I needed to see at the end of 2019.

Yeah that’s a big no from me. I mean to be fair I haven’t thought of Garden State independently in like a decade, but the last place I would have thought of it was this. Lol.

in what ways? genuinely confused by that take haha

  23. The strained relationship with his father, his general demeanor throughout the film, his character’s arc. Not the story, just the vibe. Even the soundtrack and color palette felt similar to me.

idk. i didn't get that feeling for any of that stuff in the slightest, but fair enough.

This was better than it looked. More of a personality than it would have seemed given how it was released.
