Thread for all 90's Nickelodeon discussion. I was astounded that this does not exist, considering the age and fan base of most of the former AbsolutePunk community which seems to all be here now, and I knew that it was important for me to get to 20 posts so I could make this crucial thread. I have included everything that I find relevant and will add posts throughout tonight on my work night shift with personal lists (top characters, shows, etc.). However, while I included everything I felt is relevant, I skipped over some 90's Nick stuff, so if you need The Amanda Show, Shelby Wu, and Kablam (or anything else related to 90's Nick in the thread, let me know and I will update the original post. Let me know if this is too many videos in a thread and I can take them out. I'm not as familiar with internet etiquette these days, it's been some years. Edit: Apparently I can't put more than 5 pieces of media in a post, so I'll update it to links of the videos. Apparently it auto converts the links to be embedded, so 5 of the videos are actually embedded, the rest are links. Also can only do 20 images, so I couldn't make the thread as pretty as I was hoping. All other links are the the Wiki or IMDB. Let the 90's Nickeoldeon discussion begin... Important first post... Guts was way better than Legends of the Hidden Temple, and for some reason most people think it wasn't. It's not even close. @me, fight me, come at me... you can't change my mind!
I can’t wait for my niece and nephew to be old enough to watch these. So many hold up beautifully. I wish there was a streaming service that had all of them.
Also, it's criminal that nobody is talking about Nickelodean's greatest 90s show: Kablam And Enter the Florpus is such a solid movie, loved it. Highly recommend folks see it and do a proper Zim rewatch on Hulu
Doug and Hey Arnold are two of my favorite cartoons of all time. A friend of mine works at Nick now and he gave me a tour a few ni this ago. It was very rad.
I guesssss I have to let my kid watch his own cartoons when he gets older, but I will for sure be making him watch all the 90s Nick classics.
I think the clear top shows from this era are Rugrats, Doug, Hey Arnold!, and Rocko's Modern Life. A few other greats like Ahh! Real Monsters!, Rocket Power, The Wild Thornberrys for sure. CatDog was never GREAT but I still watched it all the time. Same with Angry Beavers. The live action shows were all pretty much great too. Salute Your Shorts, Hey Dude, Clarissa, Alex Mac, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, All That, and then the dozen or so game shows were all a lot of fun at times tbh. I think I preferred Temple to Guts, but Guts was still great. The Aggro Crag! Global Guts with the extremely British Mo. Wild and Crazy Kids was like a staple of my summers along with Stick Stickly. I still have Stick Stickly's address memorized. I actually never really loved Wild and Crazy Kids, but it just became so synonymous with school finally being out and summer being here. Double Dare was a classic. Figure it Out came later but ended up being solid. My extremely unlikable hot take: I was never a big fan of Zim, Fairly Odd Parents, or *gasp* Sponge Bob. I think I was at that age where new cartoons were feeling a little bit too childish for me and I found Sponge Bob's voice and theme song annoying. I appreciate it mroe now that I'm older and the memes lol. Never got into As Told By Ginger, Shelby Wu, My Cousin Skeeter, or My Brother and Me, but I still watched them when they were on for the most part. Same with Pete & Pete, though I had more nostalgic connections to that one from my early childhood. I feel like theres a bunch of other ones I'm forgetting at the moment.
Also I didn't realize the Are You Afarid of the Dark reboot was just a 3 part movie, I thought we were getting a whole new series. Maybe if it does well. Is it just me being older and thinking kids shows are stupid now, or did Nick's live action shows really take a nose dive in the early-mid 2000s and never really get any better? just feels like they leaned into the stupid and slapstick humor and got away from the more story driven 'drama' (for lack of a better word) that their 90s shows had.
I know it's early 2000s, but Chalk Zone was my absolute favorite Nick show for a long time. Danny Phantom was so good, too
Besides John K and Dan Schneider being pos I feel like everything has aged well Ren and Stimpy and Rocko's Modern Life really impacted my sense of humor but can't watch Ren And Stimpy anymore I don't think I have a fave too much of an indoor kid
Hey Dude is the only one I’ve watched as an adult that doesn’t hold up. Rugrats is still perfect. Anyone who doesn’t cry for Melville has no heart.
