I listened to it! It’s overall a little too, uh, theater kid-ish for me personally, but it’s definitely a powerful record and I did playlist some songs.
Just listened to Semisonic's album Feeling Strangely Fine for the first time as an adult. It was mostly a slog of mediocre songs. "Closing Time" and "Singing In My Sleep" are really the only songs I liked, which was my opinion as a kid too, when I owned this CD. A couple of the b-sides are better than a good chunk of the album tracks.
I like “Secret Smile” too. The beggining of Singing in my Sleep until the chorus always reminds me of Death Cab for Cutie.
For fun, I made a mixtape of some of the most nostalgic 1997 songs for me. Songs I’d see on VH1 top 10 countdowns every day after school. Next up is 1998!
