I listened to it! It’s overall a little too, uh, theater kid-ish for me personally, but it’s definitely a powerful record and I did playlist some songs.
Just listened to Semisonic's album Feeling Strangely Fine for the first time as an adult. It was mostly a slog of mediocre songs. "Closing Time" and "Singing In My Sleep" are really the only songs I liked, which was my opinion as a kid too, when I owned this CD. A couple of the b-sides are better than a good chunk of the album tracks.
I like “Secret Smile” too. The beggining of Singing in my Sleep until the chorus always reminds me of Death Cab for Cutie.
For fun, I made a mixtape of some of the most nostalgic 1997 songs for me. Songs I’d see on VH1 top 10 countdowns every day after school. Next up is 1998!
Yessssss. Obviously MTV gets the most love for music discovery, but VH1 rock will always have a soft spot in my heart.
I made this tape for a mixtape exchange group I'm in, and it's so crazyyyy to me that all of these songs came out the same year.
