These nominations are, somehow, a new low for the HFPA in many, many ways.

I mean it's not like there was much to choose from. There are some bad snubs, specifically This May Destroy You, but with shows like Succession and Barry being off the air due to COVID, the competition is pretty thin.

The film categories in particular are terrible. Celebrating that horrible Prom movie (complete with a nomination for straight-actor-playing-gay-character James Corden) is a joke. Showering nominations on Aaron Sorkin for The Trial of the Chicago 7 while snubbing Da 5 Bloods entirely is a joke. Specifically nominating Sorkin for Best Director over Spike Lee or George C. Wolfe or Shaka King is embarrassing. Just goes to further underscore how far being an aggressively mediocre white male in Hollywood can take you, I guess.

Is Judas and the Black Messiah part of this awards season? I don't think it is, but I could be wrong...

Lindo should 1000% been have been nominated for Da 5 Bloods. God damn, he was awesome.

Also the Minari stuff is just mind-boggling.

Bad year for releases = bad year for nominations.

I stand corrected... what I meant to say was:

I didnt see any movies, so I just assumed they all sucked. lol. Totally my error. Apparently, I missed some good ones.

Granted, there was a ton of shit because a lot of the lesser studio movies were funneled to streaming services. But there was a lot of great stuff for whatever taste might be (minus superhero movies, I suppose). And this isn't the first time I heard the sentiment that there was nothing good in 2020. But most of that were from people who couldn't stop talking about wax Luke Skywalker showing up on "Mandalorian."

That doesn’t make me feel better about the situation at all, might even make me more upset to be honest

Out of all the nominees in the comedy/musical section, you’re singling out Palm Springs?
