This is the same Academy that's awarded Green Book, the Revenant, Birdman, Argo, the Artist, the King's Speech, etc, right?
because i can see people not wanting to put it #1, especially a lot of the actors which makes up the largest body of the academy, but putting it #2/#3 to play it “safe”
I think my biggest problem with Joker is how fucking empty it is. Empty of ideas, empty of creativity, empty of everything but "oh hey I saw that movie once and I liked it let me trace over it!"
I'm using this to steel myself for 1917 to join the ranks of mediocre best picture winners. Can only be pleasantly surprised from there, barring a Joker surge that even I can't see happening
thinking Parasite will win BP over Tarantino and Scorsese is just...insane to me? I don’t know anything about the voter process but I assume the academy would rather die than let that happen
It is so funny looking at all the films people highlighted as their favorites of the decade and the almost complete lack of Best Picture winners, other than Moonlight.
You probably have to go all the way back to No Country For Old Men for the next solid pick, sifting through the wins for Tom Hooper, Ben Affleck, and Peter Farrelly
I actually do think Parasite has a shot, I'd bet on it over the Irishman and Marriage Story at the very least. And Joker. OUATIH and 1917 would be question marks.
spotlight and hurt locker are fine. at the very least, they’re much much better than kong’s speech/argo/green book/the artist
