I get irrationally annoyed at artists who release EPs and then fold the entirety of those EPs into their following album, but I'm still excited for this. At least, the parts of it I haven't heard already.
I like all the EP songs, but I like them all less than the Wild Robot songs that I wish were on here.
She's quietly amassed a really great collection of b-sides, non-album tracks, soundtrack cuts, etc. I put together a makeshift album out of all that stuff, including a couple of the Highwomen songs she sings lead on, and it's super solid and enjoyable.
yeah this is pretty good overall. Gonna take a bit to get past the whole EP being here and feeling a bit unbalanced, but there's some really good tracks here
I really like this quite a bit. But then again I was a lot more positive about Humble Quest & the EP than most of you. I'm a pretty casual fan though.
I kind of just wish the EP hadn’t come out. I like those songs, but they felt slighter than they should have on a short EP (“this is how a woman leaves” hits way harder near the end of a full-length that has all different kinds of breakup songs on it) and just didn’t feel like it did a ton for her career momentum. It would have made more sense to just hold those songs for the album. Then again, this is how I always feel about releasing an EP and then folding those songs into an album. I’d rather skip the EP and wait a little longer to hear new stuff.
I loved Humble Quest, but the EP I maybe listened to once or twice. I think EP as a format kind of sucks anyway, especially if all of the songs ep up on a full length a year later
I think the EP strategy is hit or miss, but I do agree it did not work here. I really had the impression it was supposed to be a standalone thing to tide us over until the full album. To me it works if you do the EP in lieu of singles, but I'm not wild on the full EP a year early, and then multiple singles this year (just one I think with the announcement of the album would have worked).
The title track is up there with her best songs. I replay “lemonade” a lot too, wish there was a bit more of the unique playfulness of her debut but that feels kind of lost nowadays.
