Dude’s been great for the most part, but there were people who also thought he would be a contender for defensive rookie of the year in his season and I don’t think he met those standards. The expectations were set high for him, but the dude was in consideration for the first overall pick in the 2023 for a reason before he was involved in the death of his friend.

I think he’s been a great player, but he’s sometimes been a non-factor in one-on-one matchups. Sam Cosmi blanked him the last time they played Washington. Of course, sometimes he’s getting double-teamed (which I expect a lot of in this matchup) and it’s up to the rest of the defensive line to take advantage, but the rest of the line has been hit-or-miss in their one-on-one matchups as well.

He makes a notable impact, but it’s interesting that he had less sacks this year than he did as a rookie even though he was largely indivisible for the back half of his rookie season. Of course, he had the benefit of playing with Fletcher Cox and Haason Reddick as a rookie, but I think it goes to show that he still needs help and isn’t quite yet ready to be the focal point of the pass rush.

Funnily enough, the whole idea behind Jordan Davis was to have him eat up double teams to give one-on-ones for everyone else while he also develops as a pass rusher. Problem is, Davis has not developed as a pass rusher and isn’t on the field much anymore. He’s become their #4 DT at this point and I think that really matters for Carter and everyone else on the defensive line.
