Fighting Games Thread (Championship Edition) Video Game

a thread for discussion of Fighting Games new and old, modern and traditional.

his video on all the different types of fighting games is a really great way to learn more about what makes a "fighting game" for anyone who doesn't play them often

mostly created for me to be able to talk and post about them as much as i want since i know it's more of a niche genre on this site, lol

 

i'm not a big SNK guy, but i'm looking forward to seeing Mai in SF6 (probably January)

yeah Terry came out really cool so i'm excited for how she'll play (wondering if we'll get a gameplay trailer at the Game Awards, i know Tekken is gonna reveal the last Season 1 DLC character there too)

 

know what- this wasn't the Final Fantasy character everyone was asking for, but i think Clive might've won me over, his gameplay looks sick

 

Smash Bros is the peak of fighting games

 

where else are you gonna see a Kazuya VS Terry Bogard match up

i legit wanna see Sakurai make a traditional fighting game- he loves SNK titles so much, and he's included a lot of their features in Smash already. i'd be SO down to see what he'd come up with

 

That would be a good way to reboot Smash, turn it into a more traditional fighter if Sakurai and Nintendo want to go in a different direction

 

ehhhh that would def be a BAD business decision, lol
Smash is THE modern/platform fighter, turning it more into a classic one would alienate/piss off all the Smash fans and would definitely not bring in hardcore FGC audience, who mostly already look down on Smash- so they'd just lose an entire market

 

Fair, I just don’t see where Smash can go from Ultimate unless they just port it and add more DLC, unless they pivot the series in a new direction.

speaking of platform fighters, i'm looking forward to trying out Combo Devils whenever it drops- it looks fun!
i haven't really given any other plat fighters a chance, honestly. outside of playing Multiverses for a lil while (i know Rivals of Aether 2 dropped recently too)

 

picked up Granblue Fantasy VS Rising on PS5 on sale
the character art in this game is godlike

ALSO, picked up GG Strive on Switch and i'm surprised at how well it runs!!
i'm just glad it doesn't look blurry as shit like DNF or SamSho

i've actually been playing GG way more the past few days w this port, and man, Elphelt is incredibly fun

 

i've played like 10 matches online so far but man, this game is fuckin fun

 

i'll post a condensed highlight vid when i find a good one, but Capcom Cup 11 was fucking insane

a 15 year old kid from Chile almost became a millionaire. seriously, Blaz played fucking phenomenal, crazy that i think he only ever lost a set to Kakeru, who played out of his fucking MIND and never lost a set the entire goddamn tournament.

i love the fact that after winning Grand Finals, Kakeru said his motivation was his wife; that after the group stages he went home and he was in an argument w her stemming from the fact that he hadn't bought her a ring yet lmao (they recently got married)
that's why he was so determined, he needed that wedding ring money
