Self titled over Beck is the one that stings most. Harry’s House beating Renaissance was also just… woof.
i remember when that Beck album won my father said that a record like that - made predominantly by one person instead of of a team of individuals (which is an incredibly tired argument) - would be better-remembered 10 years down the line. it's been 10 years and outside of the context of it beating out Beyoncé, i haven't heard anyone talk about that album since.
Yeah, Adele had that one sewn up the moment the first-week sales figures for 25 got reported. Yeah, that's the one. I actually quite like that Beck album, but it was a weak AOTY lineup and her winning then would have saved us a lot of annoying discourse. That's an especially funny point to make, re: Morning Phase, which has a massive list of collaborators.
lol, i can see that now. i think he predominantly meant the fact that Beck wrote and produced the whole thing by himself. but it is a stupid argument when that personnel list on Wikipedia (for instrumentation primarily) is just about as long as Beyonce's.
And like, the only reason Morning Phase works at all is that it's a ton of good players recorded well. Nothing wrong with collaboration to make cool things.
Charli XCX is definitely one of those artists where I am like "not my thing, doesn't click for me like it does other people for some reason. Glad her music exists for people who do enjoy it though"
lol you could say the same for beyonce losing for s/t, lemonade, and renaissance. the grammys have always been super out of touch. cowboy carter was grammy bait and they kind of backed themselves into a corner and had to award it.
I've been seeing a lot of discourse about Kanye and Bianca and idk i just feel really bad for her and hope she's okay
Dave Chappelle won a third Grammy in a row for Best Comedy Album. Truly, one of the most illegitimate categories.
i watched the pre-telecast where one of the guys from Pentatonix read that he won that award with the most unimpressed look on his face

How does Billie get nominated for a song that was on a record, that was nominated last year? I know the Grammys are a joke with standards, but this just comes off as lame. Once your record is nominated for Album of the Year, you shouldn’t be having singles released from it being nominated the next year.
