folklore Golden hour 24K magic (especially with what got nominated) 25 1989 And RAM is hotly debated since it beat out good kid and Red.
Hold the phone, you think 24k Magic was the better pick over the other 4?! That was one of those few years where I actually enjoyed all the AOTY nominees, but 24k Magic would've been my last choice of the bunch. (the other four nominees being DAMN., 4:44, Melodrama and Awaken, My Love)
Not my personal choice but I don't think the other 4 have THAT strong of a case to beat out such a massive album.
wow what a solid year. imagine having two rap albums and a neosoul album released by a rapper nominated for AOTY.
I think people are also forgetting that this is a live TV show. A struggling part of entertainment currently.
Have you ever checked out anything he’s done before? He’s an incredible musician and legitimate prodigy. This is generally speaking and not specifically about you, but the reaction to him winning AotY a few years ago and in general is just total bullshit to me. He’s extremely prolific and one of the top tier musicians of our time. His wins and nominations aren’t shocking because they’re all well deserved/earned
Me, you dork. God, what could the appeal be of someone blending a wild array of black and roots music traditions into a hopeful new amalgam with the smarts and skills of a gifted classical pianist. Oh unknowable universe!!!!
to be fair, you guys are the first I've actually interacted with who are familiar with his music. I don't really see him being posted about on this site, unless I'm not looking in the right places. all this time i keep telling myself to throw on his shit bc I'm sure I'd enjoy it and I keep forgetting.
Guts should've been the biggest pop album of the year and swept the grammys and I need to know who to hold accountable that this didn't happen!!
I mean, at bare minimum he scored a Pixar movie. Most people in this thread seemingly are aware of his name and his existence. I’m admittedly prickly on this because some dipshit called him “the worst industry plant” and people in general seem to really be running their mouths about him. Dude just pours his heart into his music and doesn’t start shit. Plenty of people on this website will check out other artists they’re unfamiliar with mentioned in award shows. Something really great about MWE and I’d say in general about the community here is that we get excited and curious about music we don’t know. I don’t understand why Batiste doesn’t receive that same treatment
Also Miley was a whole vibe grammys night. She genuinely seemed to be having so much fun I kinda loved it.
I thought Miley was unbelievably annoying/off-putting at the Grammys, honestly. One of the low-lights of a pretty damn good ceremony.
I thought she seemed like she was just completely soaking in the moment and having a great time, not taking it too seriously but also showed a lot of gratitude. But I already adore her so
I felt the same. I'm a casual fan and I don't think I even listened to her last album but she was a delight and it made me love her. She seems fun
The “I forgot to wear underwear” thing felt like a pretty needless “hey everybody look how weird I am” moment, but generally she doesn’t bother me. I like that it always feels like she’s having a good time even if she occasionally does stuff like that
Not sure where else to put this so I am posting in here but I just realized that next years Grammys will probably be Taylor, Ariana, Beyonce, Dua, Kacey, Billie (probably), Lana (assuming her country album comes out), and possibly Haim. Like, next year is gonna be a strong year and I am not prepared for the inevitable discourse haha.
I’m excited for a bunch of those albums, but man, I hope we at least get some surprises that sneak into that category. It should not be this easy to call the nominees 10 months before they are announced.
