After teasing it earlier this week, Vampire Weekend have officially announced that their fifth studio album is indeed titled Only God Was Above Us, and it will be out April 5 via Columbia Records. The album was “inspired and haunted by 20th Century New York City” and recorded in such far-flung locales as Tokyo, London, Los Angeles, and Manhattan. The album was co-produced by VW’s Ezra Koenig and regular collaborator Ariel Rechtshaid, mixed by Dave Fridmann, and mastered by Emily Lazar. The album title comes from the photo on the album cover by Steven Siegel, and other photos from his “Subway Dream” series documenting a Jersey City junkyard in the late-’80s. No song has been shared from the album yet, but titles include “Gen X Cops,” “Prep School Gangsters,” “Ice Cream Piano,” and “Capricorn.” Pre Order - Vampire Weekend Tracklist: 1. Ice Cream Piano 2. Classical 3. Capricorn 4. Connect 5. Prep-School Gangsters 6. The Surfer 7. Gen-X Cops 8. Mary Boone 9. Pravda 10. Hope
I don't go back to FOTB much, but I spun Modern Vampires the other day and it's still so good. Excited for this.
I can’t listen to their first album anymore because every time I plug my phone in my car it starts playing A-Punk
Modern Vampires held up so well. FOTB is a bit bloated but I listened a ton the summer my youngest daughter was born while we hung outside. That teaser already has me sold. Let’s go!
