Rather, it’s the act of even asking them that represents real progress. In contrast to its predecessor, the more brooding and restrained Big Bad (2020), Tuff Luff is brash and boisterous, channeling the crunching energy of Doom Loop and 2007’s New Best Friends with power-pop charisma and indie-rock angst. In many ways, it’s the great exhale to Big Bad’s more meditative moments and the sound of Browder tapping back into his youth, eschewing inhibition and second-guessing for the purest impulse.
Cool song, I adore Big Bad so it's definitely different hearing them follow it up with something that sounds closer to Wavves or Motion City Soundtrack haha. Looking forward to the record.
Preordered the pink vinyl and the hoodie. I've been dying for a cool piece of Mansions merch since 2007 lol. I really enjoyed Big Bad but I'm glad he's changing it up. New song sounds good and I've enjoyed everything he's put out with Doom Loop being my least favorite. He posted a picture or video of them tracking drums, so I was prepared for a different sound. I'd love to see him tour again but i doubt thats ever going to happen at this point, unless someone bigger takes them out
I love this band and enjoyed Big Bad, but it felt like every song was building toward a climax that never came. I know that was very intentional, but that constant suppression just didn't fully connect with me or keep me coming back for more. Very excited that Tuff Luff appears to be bringing back the noise.
Big Bad is their best record if you don't count Best of the B's, which is their best collection of songs imho
Not saying it to be that guy, just saying it because people should pre-order this thing: this album is excellent.
