I mean, Kanye did win Best Contemporary Christian Music Album with Jesus is King, so that could still happen someday.
Kacey they just decided wasn't a country album. Which, I mean, debatable (especially given some of the very-not-country albums in that category), but it put her into pop categories, which is a much more competitive place to be, especially since that album didn't quite hit the pop crossover sweet spot I think the label hoped it would.
This has happened before. When The Arcade Fire won Album of the Year, but didn't even win it for their own genre category.
Yeah, but that album actually had acclaim going for it, ha. And there were a few big "frontrunner" albums that split the vote for AOTY. I don't think either of those circumstances are true here.
The Rock category was FULL of women last year. Not a a single one this year. Wild. AJR is nominated tho!
Don't underestimate the power of Scooter Braun (when it comes to Tori Kelly). HER seems to fall into the category like Gary Clark Jr. of talented musician who slots in with any collaboration they need them for, despite having no hits.
it's unbelievable that Miley has only been nominated once and this year is the first time Selena's been nominated
One positive takeaway from these nominations is it finally got me to check out Arlo Parks. I'm in love with this album. The guitar in Black Dog is hypnotic.
Arlo Parks being nominated is cool. Also Billie and Olivia getting a bunch of noms is great. Hot take but I hope Billie wins a lot of the awards because I like Happier Than Ever more than Sour, but I wouldn’t be disappointed if Olivia ends up winning.
is that really a hot take? Billie pushed boundaries and made a cohesive album that was a departure from her debut. Olivia’s record, while solid, is nothing we haven’t heard before.
I could really care less about the Grammys this year, because we all know that in 2023....Taylor is finally going to win a Grammy for RED. Kthx. byeeee.
But not including Wallen seems to indicate differently? Either take a stance or don't. People are cowards.
It seems like the country voters took a stance on Wallen, which excluded him from both the genre-only categories and the all-genre categories. Voters in other genres apparently had no similar qualms about throwing noms at Kanye, Manson, Chris Brown, Dr. Luke, Louis CK, etc.
