Calling it right now: Donda won't even win Best Hip-Hop Album category but will win Album of the Year.
Also, love how Deftones got nominated for both best rock song (Ohms) and best metal song (Genesis)...both great tunes, but they are absolutely the same genre.
Initial reactions: - So happy (but not surprised) to see Olivia sweep every category - Happy to see Silk Sonic and Japanese Breakfast in major categories - Happy for Deftones and Weezer getting nominations, but surprised neither Weezer album was in Best Rock Album - Why is Donda nominated for AOTY??? Not only is Kanye a piece of shit, the album is bloated and mediocre - ABBA for ROTY? Does anyone even remember how that song sounds? - Awesome Halsey is in Best Alternative Album, but was really hoping for an AOTY nomination - Cool to see Snoh Alaegra nominated a few times - Way 2 Sexy for Best Rap Performance? CLB for Best Rap Album? Barf. - DMX getting a posthumous nomination is cool, but his verse is pretty bad on that song. - Kasey getting a Best Country Song nomination and nothing else is absurd.
Two of those aren't the same Chris Brown, fyi. There's a worship songwriter with the same name who for whatever reason hasn't gone with a different version of his name (middle initial or something) for credits. Every time I'm in a church service where a song he co-wrote is sung, seeing that name takes me out of it, lol. (Two with the Chris Brown is still two too many, though!)
Ah, gotcha. Well, that's a relief! I definitely had a "When did Chris Brown break into gospel?" moment.
Halsey speaking out against the Recording Academy def did damage to her, same with Kacey. There’s no objective way you can say that the Doja Cat, Olivia, Kanye or Bieber record are a better cohesive artistic statement when compared to the latest Halsey album.
