Since Pat is on hiatus/broke up with the website, I figured I'd try to step in and spur some discussion! Full disclosure, I stole this from The Avocado. EVERY MONDAY I will continue with a new thread for the next letter! And probably post some sort of list about which 10 songs were the most popular each week. Anyway, the rules are simple, just list your top 25 songs that start with the letter “A”. You can rank them if you want, or just list them in any old order. We can have an unofficial house rule i to only list one song for each artist, just so there would be greater variety, but you don’t have to follow that if you don’t want to. It wouldn’t hurt my feelings if you found a letter with 25 different Blink-182 songs and listed them all. If you don’t have 25 songs for a particular letter, you can just list what you have. Note that the articles “A” and “The” at the beginning of a song title can be ignored. So “A Day In The Life” would actually show up under D, not A, but Tom Petty’s “The Apartment Song” would show up under A, not T. (That song didn’t make my A list, but it’s the only “The A” song in my library.) Spotify seems to take care of this automatically when I sort by title, but I can’t speak for anything else. Also, it’s OK if you combine two songs into one, like, for example, Brain Stew and Jaded, which was on my B list, but I didn’t repeat it on my J list (though I made a note of it at the end). Just don’t list it on two different lists. (I say this as if I’m going to comb through everybody’s list each week to see if they’ve got any repeats.) After the letter Z, we’ll have one final post for songs that start with numbers or any other non-alphabetic symbols. EDIT: It looks like the Bias Sorter is back up if you need a little help deciding!
This may sound dumb, but are we doing “A” or “U?” The thread title says one and the first rule says the other.
Not dumb! A this week, B next week, C the following, etc. Thanks for pointing it out, fixed in the original post.
My problem is that I don’t think I have all the music I jam anywhere that I can just make a massive list and alphabetize it. Hmmm
Here's mine with no repeated artists. Otherwise, Bad Religion would have popped up like 5 times in the top 25 haha. Marianas Trench - Astoria Jawbreaker - Accident Prone New Order - Age of Consent Bo Burnham - All Eyes On Me Bad Religion - Along the Way Alkaline Trio - All On Black New Found Glory - All Downhill From Here Bowling For Soup - Almost Foo Fighters - Aurora The Replacements - Androgynous Weird Al Yankovic - Amish Paradise Fun. - At Least I'm Not As Sad As I Used to Be Blink-182 - Aliens Exist Good Charlotte - The Anthem Ludo - Anything For You Forgive Durden - Ants Fountains of Wayne - All Kinds of Time The 1975 - About You Yellowcard - Always Summer Bayside - Already Gone Jimmy Eat World - Always Be Blxst - About You The Offspring - Americana Sparks - Amateur Hour Fall Out Boy - Alone Together
I kind of feel like listing the song first makes more sense for the goal of this thread. But that’s just me.
But seriously, how are people gonna go through their songs? I haven’t had a full library in forever. I don’t know where to begin.
I’ve got my library in Apple Music that has everything I’ve downloaded, streamed, or ripped off CD since like 2005. Then I filtered it alphabetically by song title!
I had that up to like 2013. Then my computer died and I have not owned my own computer since. I can borrow my mom’s, but I don’t have a centralized hub for all my music. I just use my iPhone and now use Spotify.
"A" by Cartel is perfect for this. They didn't even need any other letters. Other than that, "Aside" by the Weakerthans is probably my personal favorite.
Looks like I would have to favorite everything and even then only sort by band or album, not song. Damn.
Candidates off the top of my head: Billy Joel - "Allentown" Christopher Cross - "Alright" Goo Goo Dolls - "All Eyes On Me" Earth, Wind, and Fire - "After the Love Is Gone" The Dells - "Always Together" Elton John - "Amy" Simon and Garfunkel - "America" Heart - "Alone" (Live in Seattle version) Nirvana - "All Apologies" Jimi Hendrix Experience - "All Along the Watchtower" Richard Marx - "Angelia" Bonnie Raitt - "Angel from Montgomery" Journey - "Any Way You Want It" Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band - "Against the Wind" Jack's Mannequin - "Annie, Use Your Telescope" The Academy Is... - "Attention" Sammy Davis, Jr. - "As Long As She Needs Me" I'm sure I'm forgetting a ton of top contenders.
Haha this is insane and I love it. Feels like I need two weeks for each letter or I won’t be able to keep up.
