What movie or show death was so unexpected but ultimately so interesting? Brad Pitt getting his face blown off in the closet in Burn After Reading was a fascinating thing to see in theaters. You could hear audible gasps and laughs. An underrated movie overall but that scene is one of the highlights.
Scatman Crothers in The Shining comes to mind. After everything he goes through to get back to the Overlook, just to get offed right when he steps in the door is really deflating and adds to the sense that the isolation is impenetrable and the hotel is in full control. Also Marvin in Pulp Fiction still gets me.
If you came into Game of Thrones not knowing about certain major deaths in the early seasons from the books, I imagine they're pretty high on the list for tv side of things.
The Deep Blue scene was definitely a shock in theaters when I was a kid. He was by far the most famous person in the cast.
A lot of ones I thought of already mentioned here, so... The end of Fallen with Denzel Washington and John Goodman surprised me
I knew something was going to happen to them because they weren't the stars but it was definitely an all-time hilarious death scene.
This doesn't really count but somehow I went my entire life since its release not having the last act of Million Dollar Baby spoiled for me. I had however, heard that the movie had a very sad ending, so I watched the whole first hour and a half thinking that Clint was gonna get cancer and die or something. Holy hell did I get blindsided
Yeah The Other Guys is truly the funniest death scene ever. Then the funeral right after with the "quiet fight" is just incredible
