Black Pumas with an AOTY nod is cool. Should win as they're head and shoulders above everyone else, but wont. Still, a nomination is a hell of an achievement.
Ingrid Andreas sneaking in for Best New Artist is my favorite nod. No way folklore doesn’t win that AOTY crop, right?
can't believe The Weeknd got snubbed and can't believe no Fetch the Bolt Cutters in any of the big four (obviously wasn't gonna be best new artist)
My initial thoughts and hot takes: - Thought Coldplay's newest album was severely underrated, it's up there with Viva as one of their best for me. So I'm happy to see it got acknowledged with an AOTY nomination - Absolutely ecstatic to see Haim get an AOTY nomination, even though I think it's their weakest record. Also cool seeing Jhene up there! -Mac Miller receiving zero nominations is a joke. -HOT TAKE: I can not for the life of me get into the new Weeknd album, so it doesn't bother me he got snubbed -HOT TAKE: Love Fiona, but still can't get the new album to click with me aside from Ladies and Shamieka. Happy to see it at least get a Best Alternative Album nom though - That new Childish Gambino album went completely under the radar, it deserved to have a song nominated in both the r&b and rap categories. Shame. - Hell yeah Phoebe with 4 nominations! My personal AOTY, but it's her first time at the Grammys and she's in one of the big 4 categories so I can't complain. -D Smoke getting a Best New Artist nom is really cool. Super talented dude I've been following him since Rhythm & Flow, would love to see him blow up more - Some artists that I feel deserved recognition but got snubbed: Charli XCX, The 1975, JuiceWrld (would've at least thought his song with Eminem would get a rap song nom), Run the Jewels, Jessie Reyez and Halsey
As always, the Grammy's prove to be out of touch on a vast majority of things. Can't wait to not care about this.
It's the grammys. nice for those getting their first nods (or any nods), but ultimately pointless. Like all awards shows.
I've never heard of Black Pumas but people seem happy about that nomination, I'll have to check them out. I still haven't given the Dua Lipa album a full listen. Also need to revisit Haim's album. Listened to it a few times when it first came out but since then I've just put Gasoline, The Steps and I Know Alone on playlists and moved on. I've got homework to do this weekend
I haven’t dug in because I don’t care for his voice but he seems to know his shit musically speaking. Pretty sure I’ve seen a few people call him a prodigy but I haven’t really sought out the basis for that claim
Idk, this seems like an Adele situation to me, where one album so clearly defined the year in mainstream music discourse that nothing else really has a chance...at least nothing else they bothered to nominate.
