Since we can't do the brackets anymore, maybe they will let us have one thread a week. What are some sequels that are better than the original? There are some obvious ones that people will inevitably bring up, but my choice would be Before Sunset. Before Sunrise can be beautiful and lyrical, but Before Sunset deals with those feelings of regret that come in your thirties as you really start to grapple with the things that have passed you by and will never come again. The film is shot much closer to real-time, which really heightens that sense that time is coming up on their encounter. While we were just learning about these two people the first time, here we want them to find a way to stay together from the first time they see each other. It is the best in the trilogy. What would you pick?
trying to avoid like the Captain America and Thor movies or Avatar Way of Water because that's too obvious I guess Gremlins The New Batch because it's nice that at one point if you were a successful enough genius the studio would just let you make whatever you want
How To Train Your Dragon gets better with each and every film. Shrek 2. Everything coming to mind is either animated or an obvious tentpole. Mission: Impossible 4-6 is a major one for me.
Fast Five is the best of the series. It is an intersection of the racing heritage of the first film with the zany secret agents of the newer films.
I think some people complained about it clogging the forum or something? I rarely participated myself, but I thought they were a nice addition to the forum. I’d support them making a comeback. But, if these new “weekly topic” threads serve a similar purpose without randos whining, then cool.
A few random ones that come to mind without much thought; Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade Wallace and Gromit: The Wrong Trousers The Legend of Drunken Master Evil Dead II Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter In The Line of Duty 4 Mr Vampire II Sleepaway Camp II
