The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will release on May 12th, 2023. Figured it should have its own thread for theories and what not.
i wonder how this is going to pick up as a direct sequel to BoTW gameplay-wise. like, are you going to start off the game bare bones with no weapons and such as usual? curious how they're going to do this.
The Master Sword has been the weapon you work towards in almost every game, but seeing as Link already wields it from the start of the game I wonder what they’ll do now. The Master Sword seems like a cheat code if we can use it throughout the entire game.
I always envisioned this sequel almost like one giant DLC expansion rather than an entirely new game, because a direct ‘pick up where the last game ended’ sequel would stand to reason you’d have all your equipment at the ready, but there is no doubt having too much built in familiarity with the world and weapons will draw negative reviews, so i am sure something brand new is coming our way.
There’s obviously a time jump early on as well. Maybe you start with all your weapons only for you to lose them after the time jump.
I always liked how Rare handled this problem with Banjo-Tooie. They gave you every single move and item you had in the first game, and then just built further on top of that. I wish more sequels could be like that. Certainly lends itself to more creative design choices.
The Chinese name uses the characters 之淚 for 'tears' as in what happens when you cry; ie. teardrop. I'm sure the English name is a play on words, though. It can be either 'tear' as in teardrop or 'tear' as in ripped.
Part of me understands why there'd be confusion, because there is tear like tear apart the kingdom, but most of me thinks we all knew deep down it was tears, lost in rain.
So is Johnson and Johnson's slogan "no more split ends" or "no more irritation when it gets in your eyes"?
My guess is this just adds new abilities on too of what you have in botw. Especially that warping through the rock one that they showed a few trailers ago. If this is truly the “end” of the timeline, I wonder if they’d kill off Zelda.
What if this game goes full Majora's Mask and is a pretty challenging uncompromising divisive sequel to one of the most beloved games ever made. Because it's Zelda, it will be surprising and awesome no matter what direction it takes
