1. The film must have been released from 1990-1999. If you can make a strong argument for a film from 1988-1989 or 2000-2001 having a "90's spirit", it may be included. 2. The film should be FOR teens and people in their early twenties, not necessarily ABOUT teens. For example, Child's Play is not for kids even though the lead is very young in the movie. However, raunchy R-rated comedies that teens are not supposed to watch but watch anyway ARE allowed. 3. This should focus on what you enjoyed at that age, not as a jaded late-twenties early-thirties cinephile with thinning hair and back pain. Each person can nominate five films. Each nomination is worth 1 point. Depending on the nominations, the top 16/32/64 will go on to the bracket. My picks: 1. Can't Hardly Wait 2. She's All That 3. Clueless 4. Idle Hands 5. Now and Then
1. Dazed & Confused (number 1 with a bullet) 2. Clueless 3. Election 4. American Pie 5. Can't Hardly Wait
Clueless Never Been Kissed Spice World But I'm a Cheerleader Jawbreaker i'm queer so this is no surprise lol
Any chance we can do voting using a google doc? Lots of folks felt the polls were clogging up the forum.
Not Another Teen Movie was made in 2001 but clearly has a 90s vibe considering what it is. Does that count? Much like with the TV thread, I'm gonna try and nominate some lesser known ones and/or ones that might have been forgotten. Also hard to tell what counts as a "comedy" sometimes vs. straight up "Coming of age" tale, but you put Now and Then in the first post so I feel like I can nominate The Sandlot lol. TBH I have no idea what you have in mind here so I'm gonna put question marks next to ones that I'm not sure count (because most of them def aren't in the same true vein as a Can't Hardly Wait or Varsity Blues or etc. And some of these are definitely more for the younger teen crowd 1.The Sandlot 2. Angus 3. Pleasantville (?) 4. Drop Dead Fred (?) 5. Heavyweights My Boyfriend's Back Idle Hands (???) High School High (???) The Big Green The Mighty Ducks D2: The Mighty Ducks Hocus Pocus (???) Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead Camp Nowhere Wild America (???) Jungle 2 Jungle (??) Milk Money Good Burger EDIT-Edited to comply with the 5 nominations rule that I did not notice beforehand. Left question marks next to the ones in the top 5 that i wasn't sure met the criteria in case they don't count.
I just used google forms to the whole bracket. Its an easy way to have all of the responses in one place. Chorus Horror Brackets pt 2
1. But I’m A Cheerleader 2. 10 Things I Hate About You 3. Clueless 4. She’s All That 5. Can’t Hardly Wait Now and Then would definitely make my list of best coming of age stories but I couldn’t justify a nomination if we’re going for comedies.
1. Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey (prefer excellent adventure but that's 80's) 2. Can't Hardly Wait 3. Bio-Dome 4. Waynes World 5. Mallrats
Honorable Mentions (or that probably wouldn't count): Rushmore Heavyweights The Sandlot Nowhere Scream The Faculty Empire Records The Brady Bunch Movie/A Very Brady Sequel Suburbia Outside Providence
To me, Rushmore is an example of a movie about a teenager but isn't for teenagers. Before Sunrise is about young people but it isn't really that appealing to teenagers either.
Having a hell of a time keeping horror films out of this, but here it goes.. 1. Dazed and Confused 2. Idle Hands 3. American Pie 4. Can't Hardly Wait 5. She's All That
