if What's the Story Morning Glory loses to the third-best Smashing Pumpkins album, I'm going to delete all of these threads
Mellon Collie is so good. Siamese Dream is usually a Smashing Pumpkins fans' favorite album for the consistency, but Corgan really went for every impulse he had. It can be as embarrassing as it can be poignant, but it was something special.

The year of my birth! I don't know as many albums from this year as I did 1994. @phaynes12 is this the Pulp album to listen to? 1. All - Pummel (One of my favorite albums of all time with the exception of two tracks) 2. Jawbreaker - Dear You 3. Green Day - Insomniac 4. Hum - You'd Prefer An Astronaut 5. No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom 6. Primus - Tales From The Punchbowl I historically have avoided Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, and Oasis because they're so beloved, so I should probably listen to them this week. Should probably finally tackle Jagged Little Pill as well.
Think I'm finally gonna start contributing to every year from here on out! 1. D'Angelo - Brown Sugar 2. Björk - Post 3. Hum - You'd Prefer an Astronaut

yes! different class rules, probably the third or fourth best britpop album also please listen to oasis, the best britpop band, and WTSMG, the best britpop album lol
I’m into these threads, I would have contributed more in the later 80s and early 90s but I was in a bood mood and couldn’t get myself to do much
1. Bjork - Post 2. Pulp - Different Class 3. Tricky - Maxinquaye Post is my favourite album of all time, so the easiest possible number 1 choice for me. Takes everything that was so thrilling and charming about Debut, manages to be more focused, while still sprawling, and doesn't lose that sense of playfulness and joy. Probably my favourite vocal performance on any record here - her vocal range (not just in the technical sense) is astounding. Hyperballad is my favourite song of all time, just a stunningly perfect 5 minutes bit of music, that always stops me in my tracks whenever I hear it. Different Class is Pulp's razor sharp and insightful version of Brit-pop. Jarvis Cocker is a remarkable lyricist, and really shines here, with the pop hooks to make the songs shine too. Common People is completely timeless, a perpetually relevant diss track with hidden loathing, that reminds me in many ways of Dylan's "Ballad of a Thin Man". Maxinquaye is Tricky's first and by far his best release after leaving Massive Attack. It's a dark, dense trip-hop album, with plenty of electronic sounds, but more hip-hop focused than Massive Attack's records were. I only heard it relatively recently, despite being a big Massive Attack fan for years - but I'd say it's essential listening for any Massive Attack or alternative hip-hop fan. Honourable mentions; Green Day - Insomniac: A follow up album which must have frustrated the label, angry and short with very few pop hooks as found on Dookie, but taken on it's own merit, it's a great, bold record. Fugazi - Red Medicine: Feel like I'm saying the same thing for every Fugazi record, but just remarkably consistent and brilliant, the band never came close to a low point. Lifetime - Hello Bastards: Really fun music, blending pop-punks hooks, with these tiny and short hardcore structured songs. Texas is the Reason - Do You Know Who You Are?: Their only album, and one of the best songwriters from the second wave of emo. Inspired almost everyone after. (Edit: No, this is a 1996 album) Tracy Chapman - New Beginnings: A quite different album to her breakthrough, here the songs are longer and generally slower, but it's still an excellent demonstration of her talent. Jawbreaker - Dear You: Had this tagged as 2004 in my library haha. A fantastic record, completely overlooked and derided on release, but found a home and recognition a decade later. I also had Pinkerton tagged in my library as 1995 and was confused why nobody had mentioned it yet.
