I want that to be true but those song titles sound like a computer came up with “Mastodon song titles”.
I’m definitely excited about the artwork, it looks like Paul Romano did it and if so, I’m glad they reunited for this. His artwork was a crucial part of their aesthetic in the early days imo, part of what drew me in was the artwork for Blood Mountain and Leviathan when I started getting into them way back in 2006.
I’ve seen other titles thrown around so who knows. I’ll def change the OP once things get confirmed though.
15 songs…double LP? I love bands coming out of quarantine with enough songs for meaty albums these days
I'm seeing October 29th as the release, not the 22nd. Probably just the digital release, with this short a roll-out.
im in, emperor of sand was great and once more round the sun remains ridiculously underrated and a good no bullshit heavy metal record.
Listening to Pushing the Tides. Song is great but I’m not crazy on the bass heavy/woofy bass drum production. It overpowers the massive guitar riff and some interesting vocals. I’ll try on different speakers/headphones but it was jarring at first
My word this is going to rule. I loved Emperor of Sand and this sounds like a continuation of that melodically while being slightly more adventurous instrumentally. It looks like Mastodon are leaning full into the prog and I am 100% here for it.
Cackling at the length of this. I hope it earns its playtime, I imagine it will. EDIT: unless I'm bad at math that is an 86:17 runtime.
Song is solid. About what I expect from current era Mastodon. Brann's performance is still top notch.
Double album really has me pumped. I'll edit to say that I just put on Pushing the Tides and there's definite Motorhead vibes with the vocal delivery. Just fucking rips.
